Family sized apartment with pool:
This apartment has been carefully restored, combining modern comforts with beautiful original features. It is cool in summer and cosily warm during the cooler months. It has a full, modern kitchen and unrivalled access to Italy's art treasures in Umbria, Florence, Siena and Rome.
There is plenty of room for a family or for a couple who prefer the freedom of self-catering. There is space for children to run and play games as well as enjoying the pool, whose water gets beautifully warm during the summer months.
Lake Trasimeno:
Close to Lake Trasimeno, this apartment offers the opportunity to relax by the Lake on tranquil beaches, and to explore its islands and towns nearby. Castiglione del Lago (only 5 miles away) is a medieval walled town with many historic buildings and fine restaurants, several of which overlook the lake. Panicale, noted for its peace and calm is one of many Umbrian hill towns within easy reach.
Lake Trasimeno has a number of clean, safe, sandy beaches, which unusually for Italy are free of charge. You can even park at no charge. The lake's waters are clean and very warm and slope gently, making them ideal for children. Water sports include sailing, wind surfing and water ski as well as pedalos.
Ferries cross the lake to its islands, where you can enjoy the nature reserves and beaches and eat in excellent restaurants. They also go to other lakeside towns, including Tuoro, where you can visit the site where Hannibal defeated the Roman army.
Shops, markets and restaurants:
Shopping for food is easy. The nearest supermarket in Pozzuolo, 2 km away, has excellent fresh fruit and vegetables and a great selection of cheeses, wines and almost any other food or drink you could want. 'Il Forno', a short distance from the supermarket, sells bread baked on the premises.
There are more food stores in Castiglione del Lago, including a deli selling its own fresh pasta. The market comes to Castiglione del Lago on Wednesday and is not to be missed, for its fresh food and cheap, chic clothes for all the family.
Casamaggiore's local pizza restaurant a short walk away opens Saturday and Sunday evenings in the summer for eat-in and takeaway pizzas and salads. Ther are many more restaurants in Castiglione del Lago, ten minutes drive away.
Italy specialises in leather goods and fashion. We find Florence offers the widest choice, from exclusive shops to great street markets. The covered food market is fantastic, especially for its Parmesan.
