The apartment is located in Castiglion Fosco in an unspoilt medieval hillside village location. Stunning views both front and rear, wooded hills of chestnut, pine trees, olive groves and terraced vineyards. The views are of the Nestore valley below with ever changing colours of the seasons with poppies, lavender and the umber and ochre hues of tilled earth during autumn. In late summer the valley is a sea of yellow sunflowers. The scenery is stunning and unspoilt. The view to the rear looks across the valley to the village of Collebaldo. Castiglion Fosco, with its typical Umbrian church and 14th century cylindrical lookout tower that is lit up at night, is the larger village and merges in to Collebaldo both are set into the hillside. The region's forests and farms are famous for their truffles, olive oil and pork. Wild boar are plentiful in the surrounding hills

A wonderful place, we have thoroughly enjoyed our stay here! Casa Bella Vista is agreat base to explore Umbria, Tuscany and Le Marche. Its great fun exploring all the little villages and back roads. We found a lovely sundowner spot up on the hill behind Castiglion Fosco.

We spent ten very pleasant days at Casa Bella Vista in April 2009. The apartment is ideal for two to four people: two floors up by stairway, it is comfortable, well appointed, with many nice touches that indicate the owners’ care and frequent visits. We like to shop locally and prepare many of our own meals, so we appreciated that the kitchen is well equipped. Parking is free and directly in front of the street entrance.

The owner provides a great deal of helpful information, and there are friendly local people who look after the place and can help when necessary. Take care to arrive before dark, because finding the building the first time can be difficult.

The area offers many restaurants. We particularly enjoyed the meals at Il Casale, outside Paciano (on a list of restaurants the owner recommends), and Osteria da Totò in Lucignano, a bit farther away, just inside Tuscany. Both are family run and welcoming.

Castilion Fosco is a small, quiet medieval village convenient for day trips by car to most Umbrian and southern Tuscan towns.
