The Local Area: Pian di Cascina lies at the very heart of Italy, Umbria. Umbria has some of the most beautiful countryside to be found in Italy, as well as some of the most interesting towns.
The farmstead is within walking distance of Carbonesca (20 min walk to bar & shops) or a 5 min drive (45 min walk) to the traditional walled village of Casacastalda, which has a butchers, fantastic cheese shop, bakers, 2 well stocked mini markets and several bars. There are plenty of good restaurants in the area, the nearest is only a few minutes drive from the farm. The farmstead is nestled in the hills of Valfabbrica. The wonderful medieval town of Gubbio is only 25min drive away and Assisi is a 15km picturesque drive from the house. The house is ideally placed for several airports, the nearest, Perugia is 30 minutes away and Ancona airport, is less than 1 hour's drive. The English-speaking owners, Paul and Isabel, live on site and are available to provide information and help make your holiday memorable.
Local Restaurants: There are many restaurants in the area surrounding Pian Di Cascina and plenty of opportunities to sample the local cooking and produce.
There are three traditional Umbrian restaurants within 5-15 minutes of the house. The local restaurants serve typical Umbrian food such as: 'affettati' -plates of superb ham, salami and cheese, simple rustic pasta dishes with 'sugo' or truffles and roast meats and game.
The medieval town of Gubbio (25 min drive away) has some of the best restaurants in Umbria and a lively night-life. There is plenty of choice for all budgets and tastes. The specialty is rich truffle dishes made with local black and white truffles. Gubbio also has several bars and pubs, which are great fun and rather lively during the long summer evenings.
The nearby picturesque hill town of Spello has one of the top 18 cantina's (wine tasting cellars) in Italy. You can sample the best of Umbria's wine and produce in a lovely medieval courtyard setting.

The local towns of Carbonesca and Casa Castalda both have bars, where you can drink into the small hours with the locals.
You can walk to both of the bars in Carbonesca (15 min walk), they are both typical Umbrian bars, with beer on tap and a lively banter.
The local village of Casa Castalda (5 min drive or 45 min walk) has three bars in the centre of the town and a pizza-pub on the outskirts of town. The largest of the local bars (in the centre of town) is the hub of local activity, serves a variety of beers and aperitifs and is busy day and night.
Ski:
Downhill skiing is available in the winter months around 1.5 hours drive from the villa.
Cross country skiing is available locally (weather permitting) just 30 minutes drive away from the villa in the Monte Cucco National Parklands.
Golf:
There is a decent golf course at Perugia - just 35 minutes from the villa - ideal for a day out.
