Monte-del-Lago is a small historic village on edge of Lake Trasimeno, 15 km west of Perugia. Being half-way between Florence and Rome (under two hours drive to either) and 20 minutes to Assisi. It is ONLY 34 km (25 minutes average driving time on dual-carriage way road) to Perugia airport where Ryanair now fly three times per week from Stanstead.

  • It is requested that in addition to your email that you please telephone 00 44 01892 680439 to book the period you wish for your holiday. We do not have immediate access to the internet it may take longer to respond to your enquiry as we are unable to check daily e-mail communication. We need a land telephone contact and a land address as we cannot accept bookings or enquiries without these two details.

    During the winter period November through March there will be additional charges to cover gas central heating and wood fire expenses.
  • £100 accidental damages deposit. This will not be cashed and will be returned upon return of the house key. The caretaker will ascertain that the house has been left in reasonable order. Once the caretaker has given the approval that the house is left in reasonable order we will return the accidental damages deposit of £ 100 within a month of your departure. If you are leaving cash to the caretaker for the equivalent of £ 100 pounds she will then return this to you after checking the condition of the house

Notes: The accommodation provides a maximum sleeping capacity of four. Children welcome over 7 years old Really suitable for romantic couples. Local transport is limited, so the use of a car is essential for access to the local facilities. Village car park (overlooking Lake Trasimeno) next to the entrance tower and within 100 meters of the house will always have spare places and is easier to use than negotiating the narrow village streets. Lounge downstairs leading onto terrace facing the lake. Upstairs bedrooms and large dining room/kitchen have windows also overlooking the lake to the West for magnificent sunsets. Our house was unavailable for rental during 2006 as were were indulging in a seven month vacation there!

Flexible: Before we can confirm your booking we need you to provide us with a land telephone line and a land address. Ryanair now flies to Perugia airport, only 21 miles from our house. Take advantage of their Wednesday (cheaper midweek) flights to obtain the cheaper mid week flights. Alternative airports: Rynair to Ancona or Rome or Forli , EasyJet to Bologna or Rome.

Lake Trasimeno in Umbria: Living in Umbria has been described as halfway between heaven and earth. The friendly people, radiant weather, mouthwatering food, palatable wine, halcyon scenery and distinct architecture create an intoxicating mix. Escape the 'madding tourist crowd' into tranquillity of lake Trasimeno. Wander around the ancient medieval hilltop towns of Umbria, the green heart of Italy.

Location: The village of Monte del Lago is on the eastern edge of Lake Trasimeno, Umbria. It is central for access to some of the more famous tourist sites in Italy. There is an excellent network of dual carriageway roads that makes driving easy to: Assisi - 45 km; Sienna - 90 km; Orveito - 95 km; San Gimignano - 130 km; Florence - 135 km; Rome - 190 km. Distances to other major cities/airports: Perugia - 20 km; Ancona - 185 km; Forli - 190 km; Bologna - 270 km; Naples - 394 km; Milan - 425 km; Turin - 530 km.

Golf: The Lamborgani golf club, open to non-members, is within 20 km on the south side of lake Trasimeno.

Other Activities: visiting medieval towns of Sienna. Assisi, and Perugia

Lovely traditional Italian home in Umbria

This is a beautiful, well-placed home to rent if you want to base a holiday in this area of Italy, for exploring the regions of Umbria and Tuscany. There is a lovely little garden area to sit out in and there are fantastic views of the lake from the kitchen/dining room window. Access to the lake is easy and direct, about 5 minutes easy walk from the house to the paths along the lake. The owner is very helpful and has lots of local recommendations to help you explore the surrounding area. We visited in May when the weather was a bit variable, but the house always felt very welcoming. Although the village itself has no restaurants or bars, there are plenty nearby along the lakeside. We look forward to returning to the area, and to this property if it is available.

A little piece of heaven

Having just returned from Italy we wanted to say how much we enjoyed staying in your house in Monte del Lago. What a gorgeous spot it was in and so convenient for day trips to Siena, Assisi etc. It was absolutely perfect for our family of four and was a haven from the heat of the day and so delightful that most evenings we stayed in and cooked in preference to venturing out to a local restaurant. We will be recommending it to all our friends and hope to return ourselves in the not too distant future.
