Martina Franca

Enjoyed the holiday as a whole, Martina Franca is well positioned for travelling around to see the sights and has a train station with good links. Was'nt too taken with Martina itself, very busy and driving a nightmare. The apartment is quite a way out of Martina down a busy road with no footpath so just poping out for milk will mean a car journey. The centre of Martina is very typical with its square and the historic centro is very pretty. The apartment itself was lovely and clean and the two girls who look after it are very helpful. I would make one comment though, if you are sleeping in the lounge be prepared to be woken up early, it has a big picture window (which does not open) but there are no shutters on it and the blinds are cream so by about 5.30am it is broad daylight in there.
The pool is not too bad a size but not really for swimming in, although its lovely to relax around if your having a lazy day. Lido Verde beach at Torre Canne is brilliant, you pay for parking and beds etc but the facilities there are briliant, hot/cold showers, changing cubicles and a bar etc.,.
The market in Martina on a Wedneday is very good and the market in Ostuni on Saturday is huge, you can buy anything from a wardrobe to a spool of cotton and the variety of cheese, salami etc., is incredible.
Plenty of variety around for eating out, from little piza place and chicken on spits to pthe posher ent of restaurants. What ever your budget you will definitely find somewhere nice to eat.
Definitely recommend a visit to Alberobello and Ostuni, the zoosafari at Fasano is also a good day out if you have children.
Overall an enjoyable holiday although a car is a must because the apartment is slightly out of it all.
Owner's Response: We always appreciate guests' comments and, as a result of this review, are installing a blackout blind/curtain in the lounge for when the sofa bed is being used.
I would like to draw attention to the pool, the size of which is given in the property description (6.5 metres X 5 metres with a depth of approx. 110 cm. It is triangular in shape). It is ideal for cooling off, for children to play in and for doing a few strokes.
The property is approximately 1km from Martina Franca so is 'out of town' but only 3 minutes' drive away. It is to be found at the far end of a driveway (which is over 300 metres in length), leading to this small residential area which is populated by local families. Martina Franca is a medium-sized, busy town with many shops, restaurants, bars, churches, piazzas etc. and has a fascinating Baroque historical centre.
