Alghero is situated on the north-western coast of Sardinia, the second largest island in the Mediterranean sea, and it is the fourth most populated town (around 40,000 citizens), after Cagliari , Sassari and Olbia. Alghero is often described as an “island in the island” due to the fact that was colonized by the Spanish and still nowadays its dialect is a kind of Catalan (like Barcelona in Spain) and it differs from the main regional language of Sardinia (which is Sardo). Its coast is very beautiful and offers thin white sand beaches along with rocks places on a crystal clear water, but also some interesting historical and archaeological sites from different ages, such as prehistoric necropolis and buildings, roman ruins and Medieval towers, or a Natural Park, so you have multiple choice for day time activities and plenty of choice for night time, since there is a huge number of bars , restaurants and discos to have always the opportunity to do something interesting.

Notes: This attractive apartment is on the sea front in the center and on the 11' century bastions in an old but just renovated building on first floor. The bedroom has a double bed that can be made to twin beds. The lounge has a double sofa bed. The kitchen is separated from the dining aria. From the lounge you have a wonderful sea view. In this apartment you won’t miss any sunset. The apartment is furnished with new and antic furniture. The bathroom has shower, bidet, washbasin, toilet and a bigger washbasin for clothes washing. The apartment is fresh in the summer and quite warm the cooler days in the winter. Any way there is an electric heating and a gas heating for the winter days as well as a fun for the warmest summer days.

Great old town apartment

Dubliner2009 Dublin
Review Submitted: September 24, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
First off, the photo is exactly the view from the window. Really nice to watch the sunset from your dinner table and still feel like you were part of the passing tourist crowd who lined up outside to watch your view. The location is perfect for anyone wanting to be in the old town and being a bespoke apartment it doesn't have the package holiday feel. Everything is available within minutes - cafes, shops, bakeries, restaurants. The pistachio icecream in the Gelateria directly downstairs was magic!

The pub nearby could be heard at the weekend until late. Knowing that in advance meant we weren't surprised. I think we made sure we were full of wine by bed time to make sure we slept. I believe it can be loud most nights in the middle of peak season. By the end of August it was late on the weekends only and we joined them one of the nights!

Marco was a saint. He helped us organise the full trip and was full of helpful info before and during our stay. We feel we have a friend in Alghero. Cheers Marco - look us up when you get to Ireland.

The Apartment is basic but has everything you'll need. If you are not able for the heat you should find somewhere with air conditioning. If you want a basic apartment with comfy beds, cd player, kitchen, couch, dinner table and stunning views - this is it.
Description should really describe it as a studio apartment with a curtain separating the bedroom. This was perfectly fine for us but just slightly different to expectations.

Maria Pia beach is about a 40 minute walk from the old town but totally worth it. There are little beaches minutes away and Lido beach 20 mins away but Maria Pia and the dunes were worth the stroll.

The Apartment wasn't spotless clean but wasn't dirty either, probably best described as slightly musty. Nothing to put us off recommending it to our friends and family.

Lovely Holiday

Review Submitted: July 5, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
Firstly the negatives, the stairs at the entrance are indeed very steep but I noticed that other property throughout the town had similar entrances.

As with the noise from the terrace, it was usually just a distant hum but one night there was a large group of people who kept singing irish balads at the top of their voices. However, we noticed the staff were on the case, telling them to be quiet and to have respect the neighbours.

On the positive side, I can wholly agree with the all that has already been written. If you prefer a town centre apartment then this is the one!! Its open views and airyness are great as apposed to shady alternatives within the narrow streets of Alghero.

Alghero is a great place to spend a holiday. The lovely beaches of the lido area and Maria Pia are around a twenty minute pleaseant stroll and there are loads of lovely restaurants and cosy bars in the old town.

Finally, I would like to give the lovely and very witty Marco a mention and to thank him for his helpfulness and advice throughout the holiday.

Fantastic experience

Lisa.R London
Review Submitted: June 9, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
My friend and I had a wonderful holiday and that was largely down to the wonderful location of the apartment and the extremely helpful property manager Marco who was really reliable & friendly. We were provided with very helpful and much appreciated advice that we didn't even expect as part of the service; places to visit, eat, drink, transport advice, what to avoid and much more. This enabled us to the make the most of our holiday & added to the experience.
Photos are extremely reflective of what you expect to see on arrival. The sunset really is the view that you will see from the window & every night we couldn't help but smile as we knew we had the prime location in Alghero. People would gather on an evening to watch the sunset from beneath our apartment and would look up at us enviously. The apartment is truly value for money. Extremely clean, basic but very comfortable and pleasant to relax in. The beds are so comfortable, it's spacious and has all the requirements you need. The bathroom is spotless too with a really good shower! It's bright and airy with huge windows that let a lovely breeze in or just leave the shutters open if you so choose.
My friend and i would potter down to the front of the apartment and sit with drinks/read a book on the sea wall and watch the sunset or grab an ice-cream from the parlour below. There is a brilliant bar at the end of the alley set back off the main walkway, with fabulous fresh cocktails and lovely staff. There are 5 minute walks along the sea front either side of the apartment which provides you with lovely restaurants/bars to choose from all with great sea views. You are in the most beautiful part of the old town, right at the heart of it everything and by the marina.
One of the write ups suggest a noisy pub next door. It's true that music/chatter does go on until the early hours mainly on weekend nights. It didn't ruin our experience, most nights it was a background hum of chatter and it sort of added to the experience of being in the heart of the town. There were occassions when it got too noisy though and interfered with our sleep so we had to shut the windows and fell straight to sleep although this maybe a problem when it gets really hot at the hight of summer. As two 30 year olds we didn't mind as we were out drinking on average until 1 or 2am and expected people to socialise until this time however a couple of times it went on until 4am not so great.
Overall fantastic and highly recommended.

Our stay in Alghero in May 2008

Valdo Buckinghamshire, England
Review Submitted: May 28, 2008 Date of Stay: May 2008
The first view of the entrance of the flat is very off-putting, being down a badly cobbled narrowing alley and then the fifteen very steep stairs, however, the view when you arrive in the flat is amazing and made up for a lot of other things. The owner tried to be very helpful with the complaint we made about the bar with a large terrace, which is a few yards from the bedroom window and which held events on Fridays and Saturdays with a disco outside until 3 a.m. If you were a young visitor you would probably go along and enjoy the entertainment but as pensioners we found it a bit much! While we were there we had a few days of heavy rain when we spent a lot of time in the flat and it is not as cosy and comfortable as advertised. The bed-settee is painful to sit on for long and the dining chairs are very hard. A few cushions or a couple of small armchairs would have been very welcome. The bed is very comfortable and large - the bathroom is fine except for the large sink where it is necessary to keep the plug in because of the awful smell that emanates from the plughole! The property was clean and had the basics - at least another saucepan would have been welcome - there is a large pasta saucepan which is very good and two frying pans. The bedding and towels were very good and were changed during our two week stay. The Girasol coffee bar on the corner of the alley was very good - we received good friendly service and their coffee was the best we tasted. They also do drinks and food - rolls - salads (very good) etc. The people of Alghero were very friendly and helpful and we would definitely go there again. We would love to have a view like the one in this flat, but as older people would probably look for somewhere a little quieter. The old town is great for wandering around but take some comfortable shoes because of the cobbles.
