Alghero holiday apartment: Alghero

The property was as described on this web site - A functional studio room with a tiny bathroom built into one corner (toilet, wash basin, bidet, and shower above the toilet - just enough space for a small person to shower).

The main room had a kitchen table with 4 seats, wardrobe, sink, gas hob (no oven), fridge and washing machine (although we didn't use it)

Off the main room was an alcove with two single beds. I think the mattresses might have been stored folded in half and hence were rather uncomfortable.

I would recommend this apartment for its good location in Alghero old town - very central, and on a generally quiet street (too narrow for traffic except for the odd scooter)

The apartment is up one flight of very steep and narrow stone stairs - I would not recommend this for families with small children, or the elderly/disabled.

We chose this apartment, having previously camped at La Mariposa because we wanted a base, a real bed, and the use of a fridge & stove. It suited us well. However, the apartment certainly isn't luxurious, furnishings are very tired and the bedding looked about 25 years old.

Given the price, next time I would rent a bungalow or large permanent tent at the campsite, which is in my opinion a superb site, and much better value - although you do have to walk the entire length of the beach to get into town.

We asked the person who gave us the keys for some restaurant tips - all were excellent. There was also a collection of useful information (bus times etc) in the apartment.

One real gripe we had was that the plates, saucepans, dishes, glasses and cutlery were all filthy dirty when we arrived - so we spent our first night washing up everything that we thought we would need to use. Not really what you want to be doing when you arrive at your holiday destination - especially the price includes a charge for "final cleaning" of the apartment.
