Casa Veronica is in the heart of the Rialto section of Venice, one of the most ancient and characteristic areas of the city, with its world famous Rialto Bridge.

You will be enchanted by the Rialto outdoor market, which takes place every morning on the banks of the Grand Canal (3 minutes walk). The area is a coloured mix of street stalls with tourist wares, fish, flowers, fruit and vegetables, and shops selling bread and pastries, meats, fresh pasta, cheese and Italy’s renowned prosciutto. Small “bacari”, typical Venetian taverns selling wine and snacks, and homey restaurants (trattorie) line the streets. Our apartment provides a true Venetian experience. Major tourist attractions are easily reached by foot (Piazza San Marco, 15 minutes; Campo San Polo, 5 minutes; Basilica and Campo dei Frari, 8 minutes; the less noted but beautiful Campo San Giacomo dell’Orio with its ancient church, 5 minutes). The closest vaporetto (ferry) stop on the Canal Grande is four minutes by foot.

We have also thought to provide videocassettes with classical films (including children’s films) for a quiet evening at home. The walls of the house have been painted with ecological and non-toxic products. The owners.: Our names are Veronica and Gilberto. We live in Venice, just around the corner from Casa Veronica. Gilberto is an architect and teaches art history. Veronica works at the Ca' Foscari University in Venice. We have 3 daughters Gaia, Matilde and Isotta (born in September 2007).

The owner of the house was the husband of Veronica’s mother, Daniela. Daniela lives on the Lido, a narrow, green island lined with beaches across the Venice lagoon, separating it from the Adriatic sea. The apartment was rented for several years by a friend, but we have now decided to rent it for short periods. As such, we also have the opportunity to participate in home exchanges. We love travelling and meeting people from different countries. If you are interested, please e-mail us for information.

Great Apartment in the heart of Venice

Review Submitted: January 28, 2010 Date of Stay: January 2010
Casa Veronica was recommended to us by a friend and we would definately stay there again! We stayed for 3 nights in early January and it was everything we needed!
Dealing with Veronica by email was very easy as was meeting her upon our arrival in Venice. We really appreciated being able to check in early and check out late to accommodate our flight times. Obviously this perk is dependent on other bookings, but Veronica is able to provide details about a left luggage store in town if this is not possible.
The apartment is well located, light and airy, very clean, tastefully furnished, and the biscuits and fruit on arrival were a nice touch!. One daughetr slept on the sofa bed - she said it was very comfortable.
Veronica was a wealth of information about things to see and do in Venice, where to eat, how to get around etc etc. The apartment is on the first floor (no lift), but we did not find this a problem.
Wish we had stayed longer! This was one of the three best apartments we stayed in throughout Europe! Loved it!!

Owner's Response: Dear Renette,
thank you for you kind review. It was a pleasure to meet you and your family. I'm glad you love Venice because we love it too! it's a magic city and in winter time it's great: less turists and plenty of things to do. We hope you may come back soon for a longer time!

all the best to you all,
Veronica (and family)

Home away from Home

Review Submitted: November 7, 2011 Date of Stay: October 2011
This was our sixth visit to this Magical City. Whenever we visit again, I will look no further for a place to stay. Veronica's apartment was so clean and comfortable. We really liked its quiet location. It was such an easy walk to the vaporetto stop, which was never crowded. Only two bridges to cross, which is a big deal when you are tired and hauling heavy bags. Rialto is close by, but Venice is so easy and fun to walk anyway. We ate in a couple of times and used the modern kitchen. We also were glad to have a modern washing machine. Venice is our favorite city to visit and returning to this lovely aprtment each day made this visit extra special!

We keep coming back

Review Submitted: January 18, 2011 Date of Stay: March 2010
We've now stayed at Casa Veronica 6 times and have loved every moment. Veronica is a wonderful hostess, personally concerned for the happiness of her guests; the apartment is clean, bright, tastefully decorated and equipped with everything needed to self-cater -- plus guidebooks and suggestions for restaurants and places of interest in this magical city. It is perfectly situated in the heart of Venice, close to the Rialto market, yet sufficiently off the tourist track to allow you to feel as if you're a permanent resident, rather than a passing traveller. Like so many Venetian homes, it is up a couple of flights of stairs, but unless you are very frail or disabled these are not an obstacle and are good training for all the bridges you'll have to cross as you explore Venice.

There is a handy Co-op in the square at San Giacomo dell' Orio (closed Sundays), and plenty of small shops on the doorstep selling fresh bread, olives, ham, cheese and wine for the days when eating out doesn't appeal.

Highly recommended!

Very nice apartment in the heart of the city

Review Submitted: January 2, 2011 Date of Stay: December 2010
We had a wonderful stay at Casa Veronica. Appreciated the situation of the apartment from which you can either walk or take vaporettos quickly and easily.
We spent our days out wandering in the city and the island and coming back home was always quick and easy : really ideal situation for us.
It is also close to grocery shops, bakery, the wonderful Rialto food and fish market and practical shops which is NOT true everywhere in Venice. You feel quickly part of the venetians and you are close also to charming trattorias.
Living in the apartment is easy, practical and its charming decoration makes you feel at home. It has all the confort one needs for a short or longer stay : big closets, kitchen in which you can eat... We arrived on a holiday (Christmas) and Veronica had bought essential surviving food for us !
It has been recently reniewed and this makes things very comfortable.
Hope to come back in a warmer season to see flowers blooming in the stairways !

Review of Apartment

Review Submitted: November 1, 2010 Date of Stay: October 2010
We stayed here for 2 weeks in October, 2010. On the whole, it was fine, but we had some concerns that the owner should address. At the last moment, the owner was not available to meet us, which lead to a great deal of confusion and anxiety on our part - we did not hear from the substitute contact until 3 hours before leaving home for the airport and after several phone calls to Italy. And then someone else met us - who apparently spoke no English (although was very pleasant). If we hadn't been on the road by then for 24 hours it wouldn't have mattered, but the website says English spoken and my Italian at that point was not up to taking in the details of how to run the various machines. There were no potholders, dishtowels or toaster in the kitchen. There were not enough pillowcases or blankets. But the worst was the bathroom - the shower leaks (badly) and is thick with mold and mildew. The toilet runs, loudly, and continuously. The small bedroom is impossible to use as such as you have to go through the larger bedroom to get to it, and it has a paper-thin wall connecting to the next apartment.Luckily there is a sofabed in the living room. We've stayed in many apartments in Italy (and Venice) and this was not one of our favorites.
Owner's Response: Dear Mr and Mrs L,

I'm so sorry that you didn't enjoy your stay at Casa Veronica. We had all the information about your flight in July, and everything was ready for you to check in. We contacted you at the end of September, but for some reason it appears you didn't receive our email.
Unfortunately I was not able to pick you up in person (which is what I usually do) so I asked a friend to help me. This is probably why you weren't given the information about extra pillows, blankets, dish towels and so on. I wish you had given me a call when you arrived, as I always like to meet our guests and explain how everything works in the apartment. I assumed this had been done and that you were happy, and regret that this wasn't the case.
Regarding the misunderstanding about the single bedroom, there is an accurate plan of the apartment on our website; it clearly shows the layout of Casa Veronica and that the second bedroom is accessible only through the other one.
Despite all the problems on this occasion, I hope you still enjoyed your stay in Venice.

Kind regards, Veronica
