Venice city centre holiday apartment

I'd booked this for my best friend and me to celebrate our 50th birthdays with 3 days in Venice and 3 days in Rome.
We found the apartment much better than our subsequent hotel in Rome mainly because we could cater for ourselves if we chose to.
Rialto has a fab market daily to get fresh food, but the restaurants close by were also excellent. The apartment was very clean and well cared for, it's secure if you are ladies travelling alone, the rooms are spacious and comfortable and even though its above a bar we had no noise at all as it was closed in the evenings we stayed.
I'd happily stay there again as it was well positioned and reasonably priced given that overall Venice is very expensive!
However you do need to be fit, there are 2 steep flights to stairs to navigate to get to the apartment so not good for the less able traveller.

What a Gem !. This was by far one of the best city centre apartments we have stayed in. Located about 2 mins walk from Rialto Bridge and the Rialto Vaporetto stop with easy access to all tourist sights.

The apartment is extremely well fitted with buckets of storage space in the walk-in wardrobe in the bedroom. There is a very spacious bathroom, great shower and plenty of towels. A hairdryer and iron is provided. The kitchen has everything that you would find at home. There is no oven or grill but this did not prove a problem (pizzas are available on every street corner). There is no safety deposit box in the apartment but we did not feel vulnerable as doors, locks and window shutters are very secure.

The apartment is off the central shopping streets with an abundance of bars and restaurants in the immediate vicinity. There is a very popular bar/restaurant beneath the bedroom window which can be noisey until about 1.00am but we closed the double glazed windows and put on the fans provided and this solved our problem.

We were met on arrival by the lovely Snra. Fabiana who took us to our apartment and although she had little English was able to explain how everything worked. The basket of breakfast food provided was very welcome as we arrived late in the evening.

Overall, a wonderful experience. We will be recommending this apartment to friends and family and we will most certainly be back to visit this magical city.

TIP: Buy a Vaporetti/Bus ticket for the duration of your stay (at the airport, if possible). They seem expensive to purchase but include all boat (except airport boat) and bus (including airport bus for Marco Polo) whilst you are in Venice and will prove very worthwhile.

Venice is not a city for the elderly or infirm or very young children. A lot of the streets are uneven with steps and bridges everywhere. Transport is not easy to negotiate. Whilst this apartment is fine inside there are two flights of stairs to climb to get to it and the handrail is designed to only go half way along one of the flights of stairs.

A really lovely, clean, comfortable apartment with everything provided and a very high level of finish to the modern fixtures and fittings. It was furnished with tasteful ornaments and beautiful framed photographs, a good lighting scheme, generous walk-in wardrobe and ample bathroom storage.The king-size bed was excellent. We really enjoyed being so central, able to walk anywhere or just hop on the Rialto vaporetti, although the crowds around the Rialto Bridge were a bit of a shock when we first arrived. It is though, easy to get to somewhere quieter within a few minutes walk.
We had a bit of a panic when we arrived as our mobile phone wouldn't work to tell the owner we had arrived. Finally found a kind market trader who rang her on his mobile and she came to meet us. Signora Fabbiana, although very welcoming, didn't speak much English so we weren't able to ask her about the area and the only bad point is that no information was provided about local shops/restaurants/amenities etc. After asking locals we eventually found a good little supermarket 200 yards away in Salazada San Lio. We are both vegetarians and were able to get everything we needed here.
Highlights of our stay were going to see the church mosaics on the island of Torcello, the coloured houses and markets of Burano, the Cimitiere island where Stravinsky is buried, San Marco, the Doges Palace, the Peggy Guggenheim museum . . . but mainly we just loved walking around or chugging up and down the Grand Canal. Definitely worth buying a 2/3 day vaporetti ticket.
Although the apartment was in a 'quiet' square, sound seems to echo around the alleys and courtyards in Venice so earplugs are recommended at night if you're a light sleeper. If you haven't been before, would also recommend taking the boat from the airport to the Rialto - a magical way to see Venice for the first time.
Would definitely recommend this delightful apartment and have already done so to several friends.
