Completely renovated and redesigned, only the outside walls have remained unchanged : we have created a modern, tasteful, spacious interior and exposed the old beams in the living area. We have installed two completely new bath and shower rooms. The fitted kitchen is fully equipped ( incl dishwasher & washing machine). The windows of this 4th floor apartment look out over the most romantic views possible to San Marco in one direction and to the Lagoon, which can be clearly seen behind the church of Madonna dell'Orto in the other. The sleeping accommodation comprises a double room and another room with two single beds for maximum flexibility; these areas are finished in striking blue and red against the white walls. The sitting room (in one large space with the kitchen) has a dining area, and is finished in yellow and grey, with white walls and black beams. When you are in the apartment, it is a wrench to leave; to return after a day out in the city is a pleasure to look forward to!

Cannaregio is the city's most northerly 'sestiere' stretching from the train station in the west to the 'Arsenale' in the east. The northern quays look out towards the islands in the lagoon. To the south the Canal Grande bounds the 'sestiere'. It is a quiet area, one of the most unspoilt by tourists, criss-crossed by canals, characterised by small shops, simple bars and artisans' workshops. The apartment is situated on a small canal near the Campo dei Mori, one of the prettiest quarters. There are excellent restaurants frequented by Venetians on the Fondamenta della Misericordia, a step away from our quiet alleyway. While not being at all 'touristy', the apartment is situated so that Rialto is about 10 minutes walk away, and San Marco about 20 minutes. San Zaccaria (for a convenient direct boat to the Lido Beach) is about 25 minutes away on foot - the walk is fantastic, and, like us, you will probably take much longer because of all the marvellous sights en route!

Notes: Venice is a very special place, and its beauty is all its own. The most suitable visitors will be those who appreciate quiet, serene holidays and will not be looking for the high life, but will enjoy the apartment and the city for qualities other than those offered by most other destinations. We are ready to consider long lets, and are also not against (well-behaved!) pets. In addition, we will put a cot at the disposal of parents with small children, if this is asked well in advance. The access to the apartment is on foot only, and there are 5 flights of stairs up to the flat's front door. A pushchair could be left in the downstairs hall. NEW : New stereo system with CD player, radio and iPod dock. Bring your iPod and play your own music as you relax, have a drink or eat.

We are a family of 4 and stayed in this apartment for 3 nights in September 09. We found that it was just as advertised with comprehensive local information provided that made our stay so much more enjoyable and informed. The owners are honest and trustworthy. We would highly recommend this apartment for a local Venice experience.

The charm of Cannaregio

We stayed in this apartment for a week in September. It is as good as it sounds, and more. The owners' instructions are full,accurate and helpful. Being on the top floor the views are magnificent, with wonderful sunrises and sunsets. Life on the fondamenta is at a relaxed pace, without hordes of tourists; it is a joy to see the early morning activities, children going to school, work boats plying up and down the canal, fishermen mending their nets etc. The local bars and shops are interesting and friendly; there is a wonderful bakers where,if you are lucky, you can see the paninis coming straight out of the oven. Also the local wineshop will fill your bottle straight from the barrel.
The apartment is very well equipped, comfortable and clean.It is a short walk to the bustle of Strada Nova, the grand Canal and so many wonderful sights. However, after all that sight-seeing it is good to have such a haven of peace to return to. We hope to stay there again one day.

Cannaragio Apartment

Fabulous position on the top floor of a building in a calle off Misericordia, so great views from every window.
The apartment is roomy, comfortable, warm and extremely well equipped, with everything you need for cooking all the produce from the markets and wonderful, huge Chianti glasses for the necessary beverages. It was also a relief to find basic essentials, toilet rolls etc when arriving late at night and everything is closed.
Extremely comfortable beds and lots of lovely hot water for when you've walked your legs off!
We stayed a week and tried many local restaurants, but particularly enjoyed Antica Mola (un-posh, atmospheric and reliable food) Da Rioba (excellent food, lots of locals, good ambience and charming service) and Diana (unpretentious, wonderful sea bass)
We had a fantastic week and look forward to returning soon.
All the information sent by Anthony and Michel was extremely useful and accurate and in summary, we can't recommend this apartment enough

'The apartment was beautiful, nice and bright and airy, spacious, lovely and clean and very comfortable. It had everything we could possibly need, which made our stay very pleasant. It was nice too, doing our own thing, rather than staying in a hotel, we felt like 'locals' especially when in true Italian style we hung the washing out through the window!!' Sehr gute Lage, gut Platz für 4 Pers.

Sehr gute und nette Beschreibung und Tips, nette Korrespondenz, freundliche Hilfe als ich den Schlüsssel erst nicht hatte, weil die Fluggesellschaft meinen Koffer 2 Tage verspätet fand. Wenn man erstmal die 4 Stockwerke erklommen hat, wird man belohnt durch eine fantastische Aussicht in verschiedene Richtungen. Gute Versorgungsmöglichkeiten in der Nähe, Cannaregio ist das tollste Viertel um venezianisches Leben mitzubekommen und nicht nur die Touristenströme. Im Oktober herrliche Reisezeit! Die Einrichtung der Wohnung ist schlicht und funktional, es war sauber und es funktionierte alles. Man kann gut selbst kochen, auf dem Rialto-Markt sich mit Frischwaren versorgen und im gut sortierten Supermarkt in 10 Min. Fußweg gut einkaufen, den man ohne die gute Beschreibung des Vermieters nie finden würde. Wegen der Biennale lohnt sich Venedig jedes ungerade Jahr, so werden wir wiederkommen und ich kann jedem Freund diese Wohnung empfehlen.
