Self catering apartment, sleeps 7, 2 bedrooms

We stayed at this apartment from 31.5.09 to 7.6.09. the location is fantastic and close to many lovely sights and ammenities but in a quiet gated community. The apartment was very basic and lacked even enough cups for the maximum 7 people it should sleep. The bed linen was very old and scratchy and none of it matched, same goes for the towels. Elena was very nice but although we wanted to stay from sunday to sunday, and she had no other booking, she still charged us for an extra night as her bookings run from saturday to saturday. There was only enough hot water for 2 people to shower at any one time before the immersion heater ran out of water. The shower cubicle is tiny as is the bathroom which also houses the washing machine. The room upstairs could do with updating and splitting into 2 to provide more privacy and there is enough room for an ensuite but the apartment is sadly in need of updating. The kettle was one of the camping types you boil on top of the stove. There were no wine glasses and when we mentioned this Elena said she did not provide them because they got broken! (even the tumblers that were provided did not match) On leaving she asked us if we had broken anything and checked the apartment so I feel she could provide wine glasses and deduct the cost from the £150 euro deposit she retains for just such breakages. To be fair, for those on a budget who don't expect too much, this apartment is fine. I personally would say it is only suitable for students and families with a lot of children, as there are a lot of things in the area for children to do. The apartment does not overlook the pool but it is only a couple of minutes walk as is the tennis court (own rackets and balls required) and don't forget your swimming caps as these are compulsory in the pool.
There is no welcome pack which I feel would be a good idea, Some tea, coffee, sugar and milk for those who arrive late in the day would be nice. Elena told me she had only purchased the apartment last year and having shared our ideas with her maybe there will be a program of refurbishment as it is certainly an apartment with great potential in a fabulous area.
Owner's Response: Carol & c. booked from 30.05.09 to 06.06.09. They were nice and they said they were satisfied of their stay. It’s sad to read now this review. They arrived on 31.05 and they asked to stay till 07.06, that’s why I charged an extra night. They knew my conditions so I don’t understand the complain.
The apt is very big (almost 100 m2 on 2 levels), comfortable and well equipped for 7 people. Maybe a cup got broken and the houekeeper forgot to inform me but anyway, as I live downstair, Carol could have asked for a new cup at any time. I don’t supply steam glasses as they get broken very easily but in the apt there are 7 big glasses and 7 small glasses so you can drink wine without problems. I ask for a security deposit (150 EUR) for serious damages and I usually give it back without charging anything. Mine is a small activity and I run it directly. I always meet my guests personally, I show the apt and I give useful information for visiting places. I like people and when I can I like to stay for a chat with my guests. I’m always reachable in case of problems. That’s why I find not very nice to retain money for a broken glass or a lost spoon. I ask if anything got broken just to replace it, not to charge. I supply on request bed linen and towels of normal quality, cotton not silk, the same I use at home.
There is a normal electric boiler so you have to wait if you finish all the warm water. The shower box(60x60cm) fits normal size people.
Usually kettles are not supplied in italian holiday homes. English guests are usually surprised and happy to find it, which works very well even if you need the stove.
The room upstairs is very large and comfortable. The wardrobe in the middle separates the double bed from the single bed. It’s mentioned in my advert, the apt has 2 bedrooms, not 3. I’m surpised to read a complain about the lack of the 3rd bedroom and the 2nd bathroom and that the apt should be restored for this reason. Please note that all of the beds have top quality new matrasses, Carol should have mentioned it in her review.
About the wellcome pack: for healthy reasons I don’t supply food. There are pizzerias and bars open till late not far.
Carol & c. probably live in luxurious homes and they expected to find the same luxury and habits here. Maybe they should have chosen a 5 stars hotel for their holiday. My apts are not luxurious but they are comfortable, clean, well equipped and well kept. Sorry that this huge and comfortable apt was not their taste.
