We are letting a sweet self-contained apartment which is part of a charming brick-built family house in the outskirts of Bardolino on Lake Garda, in the lower half of the 'Riviera of Olive Groves', where the lake is at its widest and the Mediterranean vegetation bountiful. Hills and vines always make pretty scenery, but there is none prettier than those of Bardolino, facing the lake and the sunset, a serene pattern of vineyards, olive trees, cypresses, castles and Veronese villas in pale pink stone, set on gentle slopes, lit up by the shimmer of lake-reflected light. It deserves to be called charming, and produces a wine to match. The apartment is generously furnished and equipped, having previously been used by members of our family. Notes: There is really only room for one child, sleeping on the sofabed in the living-room. The garden includes a covered patio for outdoor meals. Parking is on a hard-standing just inside the garden gate. The swimmimg-pool is shared among 30 neighbouring homes. The owners, an English-speaking Italian couple, live upstairs. They are very hospitable and take good care of their guests. It takes less than 10 minutes to walk down to the lakeside or bus stop, and the beautiful walk along the lake to the town centre takes another 10 - 15. There are two adult bikes on offer for the use of guests.

The Area: The location of the apartment is ideal for touring the Veneto and Trentino-Alto Adige regions, and for visiting many of the great cities of north Italy: Verona (half an hour's driving time), Vicenza, Mantova, Trento, Bergamo (1 hour), Venice and Milan (2 hours) and Bologna (2.5 hours). There are wonderful walks, from strolls along the lake shore to Lazise, Bardolino and Garda, to hikes in the surrounding hills and climbs in the mountains (perhaps with the help of a cable-car). You can hire bikes and scooters, pedalos and motor-boats. Finally, if, like me, you worry about the effect of flying on our environment, there is a very pleasant train route, at least from the south of England. Take the Eurostar to Paris Nord, cross to Gare de Bercy, and take the night train to Verona arriving 7.25am. For other train routes, see www.seat61.com

Entertainment: Take a steamer to visit some of the other little towns on the lake, including the famous Sirmione, or spend a day at a theme park such as Gardaland, Caneva World of Water or Safari Zoo, all just a few miles away. Historic gardens, castles, vineyards, cafe's and restaurants to suit every budget - what's missing here? Only noisy traffic: no-one but residents drive on the road that leads to the property.

We had a lovely holiday staying at this property. It is attached to the owners house. The owners were very welcoming and friendly but did not invade our privacy.
The location was beautiful and green and the apartment was clean and accurately described in the advertisement. There is a particularly pretty private garden attached to the guest property.
We did not have a car whilst staying here. There was a 15 -20 minute walk into Bardolino itself where it was possible to use the boat services to reach other parts of the Lake (highly recommended). There was also a bus service that stopped fairly close to the property (5-10 minute walk) which went up to the North side of the Lake and also to Verona. If we had stayed for longer than a week, we would have possibly wanted a car in order to reach other towns/villages in the surrounding area.
We found that it was an excellent location to retreat to after a days sight seeing and to escape the bustle of Bardolino itself.
There were plenty of good places to eat out at in Bardolino but the covered terrace iwas also a nice place to spend an evening in.
The swimming pool was being repaired whilst we were there so we were unable to use this.
I would highly recommend this property as a holiday location and would like to thank our hosts for making us so welcome.
Owner's Response: My wife and I have been giving ospitality at our place for the past nine years now to British and Irish couples, and we did enjoyed having them with us for their civility, their charm and wittiness.
We always make sure our guests feel welcome, confortable and relaxed while staying at our place.
Our swimming pool has been restructured recently and we have now an efficient new swimming pool for our guests to enjoy.
Summer has finally set in and we are indeed thankful to our Lake Garda for its astonishing beauty.

This was a fantastic holiday despite the one evening of thunder & lightning and torrential rain. Gerry switched on the heating to dry ouy our clothes. It is a charming apartment with all the facilities and close to two supermarkets for supplies. We took advantage of their bicycles but were unable to use the swimming pool as it was being refurbished - ready in July. Bardolino is an excellent town with good public services.
We would reccomend this property to everyone.
