Nearby Ostuni (the White City) itself is a picturesque town full of character with excellent restaurants, attractions and amenities, a maze of beautiful cobbled streets and baroque architecture, unspoilt by tourism and is centrally located in the 'Valle d'Itria' region of Puglia. It is an excellent base to explore the surrounding countryside, wineries, local towns and attractions. The property is situated on a private road in a semi-rural area which contains several privately owned properties, olive groves, farms, masserie and trulli, and offers privacy and tranquillity in a unique and relaxed setting. Further details for this holiday farmhouse rental in Ostuni, Italy

Ostuni - Tourist Information: OSTUNI is one of the most stunning small towns of southern Italy. Situated on three hills at the southernmost edge of Le Murge, and an important Greco-Roman city in the first century AD, its old centre spreads across the highest of the hills, a gleaming white splash of sun-bleached streets and cobbled alleyways, dominating the plains below. The maze of well-preserved winding streets makes for a fascinating amble, the town buzzes on summer nights and there are some exceptional views – particularly from Largo Castello over the woods to the north. Bits of cavorting Baroque twist out of unexpected places, including an ornamented eighteenth-century obelisk, 21m high, dedicated to St Oronzo, which stands in Piazza della Libertà (aka Piazza St Oronzo) on the southern edge of the old town. This is the focal point on summer Saturday nights for hordes of people who drive in from the countryside around, meet up with their friends.

Ostuni - Tourist Information: The Chiesa delle Monacelle, on the main road from the upper town to the main piazza, has displays on prehistory (daily 9am–1pm & 4.30–10pm; winter closes 7.30pm; 1.50), the highlight of which is 'Delia', the skeleton of a pregnant young woman found in a crouched position, her bones decorated before burial. You'll find the tourist office at Corso Mazzini 8 in the old town (summer Mon–Fri 8am–1.30pm & 4.30–9.30pm, Sat 4.30–9.30pm; winter Mon–Fri 9am–12.30pm & 3.30–6.30pm; tel 0831.301.268).

There are a number of excellent restaurants in Ostuni: try Osteria del Tempo Perso, at Via Tanzarella 47 (closed all day Mon & lunchtimes except Sun; reservations advised tel 0831.303.320), for good-value fave e cicoria (broad beans with chicory), orecchiette con cime di rapa (pasta with turnip tops) and grilled meat. Vecchia Ostuni, Largo Lanza 9, just off Piazza della Libertà, is another good choice with a vast array of antipasti including deep-fried courgette flowers, snails in a piquant tomato salsa!

Other Activities:

sightseeing, zoo safari, touring, cuisine, wineries, relaxing

Comments from Owner Guestbook

Review Submitted: December 6, 2007 Date of Stay: December 2007
Dan/Steph - just to say thank you very much for allowing us to stay in
your amazing Trullo - we had a great time - Ostuni in the summer evening is
a great place to wander - Oronzo was very kind - and as you predicted -
figs, plums and almonds appeared - oh and eggs too !!
Nunzia is excellent, and nothing was too much trouble.
We will certainly recommend you to our friends and family, and be back
again soon we hope. (August 2005)

The Trulli, its location, weather, scenery, food, people, architecture, roads and airport were excellent. The Trulli was a cool oasis. I have never heard so many nightingales make such a noise (pleasant) in the morning! The agents were very friendly and helpful. Overall we were very impressed with the Trulli and its land. I doubt I could have selected a better location and accommodation (within the budget of course) for our first visit to Italy (June 2006)

A week in Puglia

Review Submitted: September 6, 2011 Date of Stay: August 2011
We (2 adults, one child) spent a week in Puglia staying in Trullo Lily at the end of August. A week was not enough! We loved everything about the area and Trullo life was just perfect.

The accommodation was highly original, beautifully kept and well situated for exploring everything from the Puglia countryside to key attractions, towns, cities and beautiful beaches. It was clean, well-maintained and fully equipped. So many highlights there are just too many to mention but we'll never forget eating freshly picked figs from the trees in the garden for breakfast and sitting on the roof of the Trullo admiring the stunning views. Both the owner and local agent were extremely friendly and helpful before, during and even after our stay.

The Puglia region is a joy to explore but we would most definitely recommend a trip to the city of Lecce, a visit to the Grotte di Castellana, romantic dinner by the sea at Alba Chiara restaurant between Torre Canne and Savelletri, and of course visits to Ostuni by day and by night. There are so many different beaches (Torre Guaceto is lovely), ports, restaurants and sights to explore but you must have a car and ideally a Sat nav. If you don't mind a two hour car journey Santa Maria di Leuca at the furthest point of the "heel" of Italy is also worth a day trip.

There really wasn't anything to dislike - this region of Italy is still relatively undiscovered - people are friendly, helpful and efficient and there is so much to see and do. Obviously be prepared with insect repellent for sitting out in the evenings but aside from that I can't think of one thing we didn't love!

I would definitely recommend a holiday in this part of Italy and staying in a trullo is a unique experience we will never forget for all the right reasons.

Olive trees everywhere....

Review Submitted: July 20, 2010 Date of Stay: June 2010
We spent 8 days in June and it was a great vacation. The trullo is just as described if not even better, it is very private ( but not too isolated ) and it is an easy drive to most locations around Ostuni ( Lecce, Alberobello, Castellana grotte, all the beaches ).
The local agent was very helpfull and always available if we had any request. We enjoyed dining al fresco under the fig tree next to the trullo but we also experienced some of the local masserie ( old farm houses ) that offer some incredible food. Do not miss the masseria " Il frantoio ". You will have one of the best dining experience of your life. A car is a must.

Somewhere different

Review Submitted: October 11, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
We had a lovely holiday in this beautifully restored trullo. It stands in a large area of ground and there is plenty of garden furniture to laze beneath the olive trees. The property is very clean and well maintained. It is a very interesting area and quite different to other places we have been to in Italy.

Trullo

Review Submitted: September 21, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
We stayed for just over two weeks in August and had a lovely relaxing time. The trullo is located on a private road, near enough to other houses not to feel isolated but far enough from Ostuni to be peaceful. It has been beautifully restored with a modern addition for the bedrooms. Everything was clean and well maintained.

Most tourists in the region seem to be from other parts of Italy and we only heard a few English visitors during our stay. Time spent in Puglia is about exploring the historic towns, relaxing at small uncommercial beaches and taking time to enjoy great food.

Most places close in the afternoon and our children (5 & 9 years) adapted to taking siestas and eating dinner later. They loved being able to climb the steps onto the top of the trullo and enjoyed spotting lizards in the garden.

Some highlights
- The small gently shelving sandy beach 15 mins away at Monticelli
- Great ice cream and friendly service at La Dolce Ostuni
- Olive oil from the Ostuni cooperative
- Great pizza at Dolce Morso in Martina Franca
- Baroque architecture in Lecce
- Grotte di Castellana caves
- San Rocco festival in Locorotondo
- Seafood restaurants in Gallipoli

A car is essential and we were glad of our GPS when navigating the small roads and searching for parking in the old towns of the region whilst avoiding the mopeds!
