A week in Puglia

We (2 adults, one child) spent a week in Puglia staying in Trullo Lily at the end of August. A week was not enough! We loved everything about the area and Trullo life was just perfect.
The accommodation was highly original, beautifully kept and well situated for exploring everything from the Puglia countryside to key attractions, towns, cities and beautiful beaches. It was clean, well-maintained and fully equipped. So many highlights there are just too many to mention but we'll never forget eating freshly picked figs from the trees in the garden for breakfast and sitting on the roof of the Trullo admiring the stunning views. Both the owner and local agent were extremely friendly and helpful before, during and even after our stay.
The Puglia region is a joy to explore but we would most definitely recommend a trip to the city of Lecce, a visit to the Grotte di Castellana, romantic dinner by the sea at Alba Chiara restaurant between Torre Canne and Savelletri, and of course visits to Ostuni by day and by night. There are so many different beaches (Torre Guaceto is lovely), ports, restaurants and sights to explore but you must have a car and ideally a Sat nav. If you don't mind a two hour car journey Santa Maria di Leuca at the furthest point of the "heel" of Italy is also worth a day trip.
There really wasn't anything to dislike - this region of Italy is still relatively undiscovered - people are friendly, helpful and efficient and there is so much to see and do. Obviously be prepared with insect repellent for sitting out in the evenings but aside from that I can't think of one thing we didn't love!
I would definitely recommend a holiday in this part of Italy and staying in a trullo is a unique experience we will never forget for all the right reasons.
