We spent two weeks at Palazzo Rosso in mid summer, in glorious sunshine. When we booked in January during a wet Scottish winter we thought it looked pretty special. We were right - the conversion of the barn from a run-down farm storehouse into six modern apartments has been done with great sensitivity towards the original building. The honeyed stonework has been preserved and cleaned inside and out, with the magnificent timber beams retained to support the tiled roof over the barn and large arcaded courtyard. Our apartment was well furnished and equipped to a high standard, and most importantly had quiet, efficient air-con that kept us cool at night.
Our days were spent taking trips to the many old towns and villages of the Veneto, alternating with lazy days lounging by the big pool with the other groups staying at the Palazzo. We could soak up the culture, and soak up the sun as well. It was never too busy around the apartments, with plenty of room for everyone to spread out.
All of the above is reason enough to go there, but what made the holiday extra special were the two owners, Phil and Sylvie, who made us all feel part of their family. They were always on hand with tips on places to see (and places to avoid), local restaurants, beaches, markets – all the stuff that’s not in the guidebooks. They gave us eggs and plums from the farm (wonderful), and invited us to join in a huge pig-roast barbecue with several hundred locals in the Palazzo grounds. At no time did we feel like “just another customer”. A memorable holiday with two lovely people - you should go there.
Owner's Response: We also had a great time with Colin and Judy especially at the Pig roast with lots of great food and wine.
It is very rewarding for us to know that Colin and Judy took the time to tell everyone (including us) how much they enjoyed their holiday.
