Beaches a plenty (who needs a swimming pool!): Due to the jagged contours of the 20 kilometre coastline south of Olbia there are more than 30 sandy beaches. They offer a scenic, tranquil place to sunbath and swim no matter what the wind direction. Some of the beaches are sweeping white stretches of sand at the edge of crystal clear and shallow waters. Perfect for the family, especially young children. Others are in coves where sand beaches are interspersed between the rocky and vegetation covered shoreline. Some are off the beaten path and are a short walk.
Another option is the impressive Isola de Tavolara. A small ferry boat leaves every hour for the 15-minute trip to the island. There are two restaurants open in summer. Other small island beaches are reachable if you hire a dingy for the day.
If you do reserve the villa we provide you with directions to these beaches as well as info about local restaurants and other useful information.
Tavolara National Park: The coastline in the vicinity of Porto San Paolo and the imposing Isola de Tavolara is all part of a marine reserve called Tavola-Punta Coda Cavallo that was established in 1997. Besides the island of Tavolara, which juts out of the sea to a height of 550 metres, there are several other islands as well as the Coda de Cavallo, which is a long p peninsula that juts out into the sea.. The crystal clear blue sea and dramatic shoreline are as beautiful as any you will find in the Mediterranean or even the Caribbean.. This is an ideal area to explore by foot, boat or scuba diving.. There is a diving school in Porto San Paolo, which offers visits to a wide variety of dive sights for all levels of ability. There are also dive shops in Punta Aldia. Capo Ceraso, which frames the marine reserve on the north end, is another spectacular place to discover, especially a host of secret beaches accessible only by boat or on foot.
Scuba diving par excellence: With crystal clear waters, the protected marine reserve of Isola de Tavolara, a range of sunken ships, beautiful coral reefs and an abundance of fish life, the scuba diving opportunities near the Villavista Tavolara are as good as any in the Mediterranean Sea. There is a diving school in Porto San Paolo as well as two other dive shops nearby. Overall there are more than 40 different dive sites including three wreck dives at depths that range from 10 meters to 30 meters. One of the nearby dives is the famous K-12, a German merchant ship sunk during World War II.
Golf:
The mild winters of Sardinia allow year-round play in Sardinia and golf here is one of the best kept secrets in Europe. Unlike the more popular courses in Portugal or Spain the Sardo links are uncrowded and less expensive. Though less in number, they are certainly worth the visit of any aficionado. Sardinia's top course - and some say as good as any in continental Europe - is the world famous Il Pevero Golf Club. The Robert Trent Jones-designed course situated along the hills above the sparkling Costa Smeralda sea is only a 25- minute drive from our Villavistatavolarvilla. Guests at Il Pevero are welcome and club rental is possible. In the opposite direction of the Villa Vistatavolara, heading south along the sea, is the Punta Aldia golf club and only a 15 minute drive. It is a magnificently landscaped 9-hole course wrapped around the jagged contours of the shoreline. There is also a marina, restaurants, tennis courts and swimming pool at Punta Aldia. Golf club rental is possible.. A 90 minute drive down the scenic Sardinian interior motorway is the Is Arenas Golf Club, which is located in a nature reserve just off the sea near Oristano on the west coast of Sardinia. Allthough only opened in 2001, Is Arenas is fast becoming as widely hailed as Il Pevero.
Last but not least there is a driving range five minutes from the villa in Porto San Paolo and another one, along with a small 3-hole par 3 course, only 15 minutes away just of the S.S. 131 motorway.
Other Activities:
Great scuba diving, including multiple sites in the Tavolara marine reserve
