Local area information: In the local area there are many interesting places to visit, from Graeco-Roman archaeological sites and museums to picturesque villages, untouched forests and marvellous beaches. Interesting places to visit are: Scolacium, a Greek-Roman archaeological site in an olive tree estate. You can see the theatre, the forum, and a small but interesting museum with statues and local archaeological findings. On the top of the hill you can visit the necropolis and admire a breathtaking view of the gulf. At the entrance you’ll find the ruins of a Norman church “La Roccelletta. You can also visit a olive mill which dates back to the beginning of last century. Squillace: nice village on the hills, famous for ceramics. Stilo: visit the tiny but perfectly preserved basilian church “La Cattolica” that dates back to 12th century. Bivongi: newly restored basilian church where the monks from Greece still live and pray.

Serra San Bruno: in the middle of Serre Calabre (Calabrian central mountains), driving through impressive forests, you’ll find the village of Serra San Bruno with it’s Chartreuse where the German monk San Bruno lived. The place is also very famous for mushrooms. Locri Epizefiri: wide archaeological site with a beautiful ancient Greek theatre and a very interesting museum. Cropani: picturesque village with an interesting church. La Sila: impressive Calabrian highland with two lakes and Silano pine forests. Tropea: beautiful tourist resort on the Tirrenian sea. Scilla: picturesque fisherman’s village close to Reggio Calabria, on the superb “Messina Strait” Reggio Calabria: the museum where the Bronzi di Riace and the lungomare with its breathtaking view of Sicily and Etna are well worth a visit. Eolian Islands: organized one day cruise trips to the Eolian Islands from Soverato.

Gerace: most beautiful and picturesque town, with a very interesting ancient cathedral, churches and nice streets. Beaches: The Ionian coast of Calabria is mainly sandy, but you can find a most beautiful rocky coast in Pietragrande, Caminia and Copanello. You will surely like the region of Calabria, still unspoiled by tourism, and you will enjoy the delicious food and good local wine in the many restaurants by the sea.

We wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed staying in your beautiful
home in Davoli. We never imagined such an extraordinary setting. The
garden was so beautiful, and the views of the ocean from the veranda
were magnificent.------
We had a lovely stay. The house was
wonderful - it's so nice to be that close to the beach and the garden is
beautiful with its wonderful views of the hills.
We'd love to stay at the house again, the week went far too quickly but then
holidays always do!

A wonderful villa in a magical place

Review Submitted: May 13, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2008
I had a fantastic holiday at this lovely villa. Set in beautiful gardens and lemons groves, the house is well presented, spotlessly clean and has all the facilities needed for a family stay, with a great kitchen and bathroom and outdoor shower for cleaning off the sand after a hard day on the beach. The terrace is spacious and shaded and looks over lovely gardens and out to the sea. In the afternoon the side terrace catches the sum for a spot of sunbathing if you don't fancy the beach - the most special thing about this place is the fact that it is right on the sea front and we could walk out of the garden, across the quiet road to the most beautiful golden sand and the clearest, safest water I have seen in Europe = a fantastic location and great for kids. There are a number of bars within walking distance selling good food and drinks but you must not miss Paulas gelateria abut 2k away 24 hours and the most amazing ice-cream in South Italy. Antonietta is a great hostess and you would love having a relaxing holiday in this beautiful, unspoilt and largely undiscovered part of Italy - I can see why the Italians want to keep it for themselves!! Fantastic Fortnight!

Review Submitted: April 4, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2008
My family and I stayed in the Villa Marina Piccola in August 2008. It was our first time to the south of Italy so we didn't know what to expect. We were overwhelmed by how beautiful the location was.
The villa is perfect for a small family. It is of a high standard, well maintained and equipped with everything you would need. Towels and sheets were included.
We particularly enjoyed eating out on the terrace for our meals, so peaceful to hear the birds singing, see the sea in front of us and feel the cool breeze.
It was secluded in its own part of the large gardens but if you needed anything the host Maria was on hand to provide any help and was so friendly and accomodating.
The gardens display lots of beautiful fruit trees and shrubs and give plenty of shade for the hot part of the day.
The beach is a one minute walk across from the Villa and is one of the nicest beaches we have ever seen. The sand is clean and the water crystal clear.Very safe for swimming and lovely to walk along.
The local town has a supermarket, a market and a fantastic coffeeshop/bakery called Paola's.
We highly reccomend the pastires!! My husband used one of the bikes at the property to cycle in to collect our brioches every morning.
We had a fantastic fortnight and would not hesitate to recommend it to any of our friends.

Villa Marina Piccola

Ron and Debbie Bedford
Review Submitted: October 14, 2008 Date of Stay: May 2008
My wife and I were not sure what to expect on arrival, but the villa and location surpassed all our expectations.

Ladis, who looks after the place for Maria, greeted us on arrival showed us round and made us very welcome. She only lives round the corner so is able to sort out any issues or queries promptly.

It is secluded and I would suggest that you definitely need a car, but that was part of the joy of going out shopping to the local supermarket (you will find details in the holiday booklet in the villa) and searching for different restaurants to go to.

The property is surrounded by fruit tree orchards and helps with the seclusion. The beach is literally out the drive and across the road which is not busy at all, certainly when we went at end of May.

We could not believe that sometimes we had the huge stretch of sandy beach to ourselves. It was such a relaxing and peaceful holiday, but that could have been because we were out of the main season, but that was what we went for.

Should be able to provide an updated review for next year as we intend to go back if we can.

Villa Marina Piccola

R&R seekers Hertfordshire, UK
Review Submitted: July 7, 2008 Date of Stay: June 2008
We have just returned from a lovely holiday in Calabria, 7 days of which was spent at the Villa Marina Piccola. The Villa is in a lovely secluded location, perfect for a relaxing break. The beautiful beach is just across the road from the Villa and the water there is crystal clear.

The villa itself was comfortable, although perhaps a little small for 4 adults (it is really designed for 2 adults and 1 or 2 small children). However, it is set in lovely grounds, full of lemon and orange trees. The only way to improve it really would be to add a pool!

There is little to do in the area (and few restaurants), but there is a good supermarket nearby with a range of fantastic local foods. The nearest town, Soverato, also has a huge market on a Friday morning, which is perfect for stocking up on fresh produce.

We would certainly consider returning to the Villa Marina Piccola. It is perfectfor a quiet getaway.
