Villa Ebner, Sardinia

The villa is in a beautiful setting and a completely quiet location. There are other villas on the sandy road leading to it, but they do not intrude at all, as the property is surrounded by a good plot of land filled with plenty of bush and trees. The villa is superbly designed with generous sized and well proportioned rooms, and the high vaulted ceiling in the living area gives this villa a baronial feel. It is charming and substantial in a way which eludes many modern edifices, and has a family feel to it. The terrace is very large and the stone arches bring a sense of place to the outdoor space. My only criticisms would be a lack of beach towels and beach ware, and the hard mattress in the main bedroom, which may suit some backs, but left me sleeping badly. And if you are used to feather pillows and duvets, you won't find these provided, so take your own, or put up with small thin pillows, and sheets with thin counterpanes. Somewhat more luxury in the bedding might be expected for what was charged. (It was quite cool at night in mid-September, so a light duvet would not have gone amiss). The beach is situated in a small bay, and is enchanting. The sand is powdery, and the water suitable for young children as well as adults. There are quite a lot of cigarette ends around, but I suppose that this is common on most beaches. The local attractions within an hour's reach by car are quite sufficient for a week or two, and the sand dunes nearby are breathtaking. The local restaurants were friendly, if a little understocked at the end of season, but there was one fish restaurant in the locality serving absolutely outstanding food which was an unforgettable and unexpected experience. Overall, a wonderful, memorable villa and location, lacking only in a few more comforts for the price charged.
