Whilst swimming and snorkelling thrive in the area (especially from the stunning pink beach of Elafonisi), there are not a huge number of water sports available directly from a Livadia property, purely due to the remoteness of the village.

There are some marvellous walks which take you into the Cretan countryside too. The European E4 walking route passes through the village itself, offering beautiful walking along the coast, through olive plantations, past the astonishing lava formations and onto a range of Cretan villages including Sfnari with its fantastic tavernas and Kissamos which is home to some fantastic stalls selling the finest of local produce. Walking along the back of the Bay of Livadia is a wonderful way to spend the early evening before heading to one of the local bars or tavernas for your evening meal. The lush green vegetation contrasts perfectly with the blue of the sea and the blazing oranges of sunset, producing absolutely unforgettable landscape scenes, ideal for artists, photographers and painters to try to capture.

One of the best ways to explore the region is by hiring a little fishing boat from Livadia Bay and heading along the coastline under your own steam. There are many treasures to be discovered, from the pink sand and coral reefs of Elafonisi to the fine beaches and beautiful old houses and villas of Vamos on the Rethymno Peninsula.
