Do not come to Gozo seeking night life and discos! These can be found if you look, but the beauty of the island is its major attraction. In winter, savour the sun in sheltered corners, and admire the play of light on the stone. In autumn and spring, go for unforgettable walks in the strong, stark landscape (which in spring is covered in a profusion of yellow and red wild flowers); and swim all the way through to the beginning of November. In summer, the extraordinary heat is tempered by breezes from the sea, and you have the high stone-walled rooms, the cool pool, the sandy beach or the rocky coves to take refuge. Make yourselves a barbecue on the new built-in barbecue and eat it on the roof garden terrace (romantic lights provided!) or in the courtyard at night-time in the quietest environment imaginable, under the twinkling stars, and you truly have a holiday which will last not a week or two, but all through the following winter in your memories.
Courtesy and Friendliness in Another Century:
Living or staying in Gozo is like stepping back into another century. All the advantages of modern life are there, but the essence of the island is peace, quiet and relaxation. Life is cheap and simple. We recommend you buy Maltese produce as much as possible - Maltese wine and (Cisk) beer are excellent, and cost a fraction of imported equivalents.The Gozitans (and the Maltese in general) are extremely welcoming and friendly. They (nearly all) speak English, so you will be able to get to know the local people much more easily than on most other Mediterranean islands. Road signs, public notices, restaurant menus etc are all written as a matter of course in English; there are Maltese English-language newspapers and magazines, and you can buy English newspapers on the same day as in England, including Sunday papers. If you don't wish to cook for yourselves, the island has a large number of superb restaurants to fit all pockets.
