Shopping from a Marrakech or Essaouira property is a fantastically fun experience, going from colourful bazaars to individual souks through crowds of entertainers and locals going about their daily business. Taking a horse-drawn carriage through the towns’ streets is a relaxing way to see the area too.

Places to visit on holiday in Marrakech – Essaouira, Morocco

Essaouira is one of the most endearing places you can take a self catering property on the Moroccan Atlantic coast. The whitewashed streets are awash with colour, from the bright window shutters and fishing boats to the lush window boxes which adorn the front of many Essaouira riads and properties. The huge sand beaches which line the front of the town are never crowded, and provide the perfect spot on which to relax and soak in the sun.

Marrakech is possibly the more famous of the two towns, being regularly cited as the entertainment capital of Morocco. The main square, the Djemaa el Fna, is always a riot of colour and sound, and you will never have to worry about eating from a self catering Marrakech riad or villa as there are a huge range of restaurants and cafes in the town. The famous souks of Marrakech are well worth investigating from any holiday rental accommodation in the region too, but make sure your bargaining skills are up to date!

The climate of the region is amazingly steady. Average monthly temperatures range from 16°C in January to 24°C in August, with very little rain at any time of year. Rainfall is most common in December, and almost unheard of between May and October.

Cheap flights to Marrakech – Essaouira, Morocco

Although there is a small airport in Essaouira (ESU), you are very unlikely to get a flight in or out from here. Marrakech International (RAK), on the other hand, has a huge range of cheap flights arriving from the UK, provided by British Airways, EasyJet and ThomsonFly.
