The location and interior of this Riad really sets it apart. Dar Soulahfa nestles in the streets and alleyways that form the very heart of the old Medina of Marrakech. Ideally located in the most desirable area of the Medina, this wonderful position makes it so easy to explore all this exotic city has to offer. The house has an abundance of traditional charm along with 21st century benefits such as air conditioning and heating. The private plunge pool is instantly refreshing and the large roof garden/terrace offers generous and private outside space. The staff provide a warm welcome, are delighted to have children staying and will do their very best to accommodate any request. Intimate enough for a romantic break for two, yet with more than enough space for a small group of friends and ideal for a family. The house is located in a safe and quiet area in the highly regarded south of the Medina with a mixture of Moroccan families and other holiday properties, it offers the chance to experience the real life of the Medina, far more rewarding than a stay in any hotel. Within a matter of minutes you can walk to the Dar Si Said museum, the Bahia Palace the wonderful little Maison Tiskiwin museum, Souks, Hamams, bars and restaurants as well as the famous square Djemaa el-fna. This location really can not be bettered.

Notes: The house does not easily fit into the categories used to describe what westerners think of as a house. Dar Soulahfa is built in the traditional way around an open courtyard where you will find the plunge pool. The main living areas are found on the first floor with the salon as well as areas for sitting and dining that open through arches to a balcony overlooking the pool below. The large roof terrace provides an additional dining area, a covered space with hand painted ceiling and sunbeds for private sunbathing. The terrace becomes the centre of the house during the day where time drifts by as you absorb the sounds of the Medina.

Staff: The staff at Dar Soulahfa run the house as though it is a typical Marakchi family home. The welcome they extend is the same as that you would receive staying in their own house, here nothing is too much trouble.Though a full housekeeping service is provided the staff do not live in the house allowing you privacy and the chance to enjoy the unique atmosphere of this Raid. This is a combination of a Villa holiday and a hotel stay, perfect for a relaxed family holiday or for a group of friends where the staff will take care of you while you enjoy the benefits of exclusive rental.The houseman will meet you at the airport, arrange your transfers and any excursions you may wish to take. He serves breakfast and any other meals taken in the house. The staff are here to ease you into a culture that is quite different, though friendly and very welcoming.

Meals: Breakfast is included and usually consists of bread, preserves, pastries, eggs, fresh orange juice and coffee.Atika, our housekeeper, is an exceptional cook and her traditional Moroccan food surpasses any restaurant, this is your chance to enjoy the seasonal food eaten by a Moroccan family. At 150Dirhams (£9) per head for dinner it also offers very good value.Any dietary needs can be accommodated and should be highlighted on booking. We do not hold an alcohol licence and do not sell alcohol on the premises. However, the houseman is able to purchase wine or beer on your behalf, this should be discussed directly with him.

Children: Children are most welcome at dar Soulahfa, the staff love to have them around. It is unusual to find smaller Riads for exclusive rental in Marrakech, this arrangement allows guests to really relax and feel at home without the concerns of disturbing others or being disturbed themselves. There is a child gate to the stairs at first floor level but apart from that the pool, in the centre of the house, is unattended and guests must take responsibility for their children's safety.

Our family ( my wife and I, and our 3 children ) just returned from a wonderful holiday in early March in Marrakech. Our stay at Dar Soulahfa was a great highlight of our trip. The owner was extremely helpful in aiding us in setting up our itinerary, and the local staff were great with our whole family.
Before we arrived, we didn't know whether we would eat all our meals at our riad, but after dinner on our first night, we never even thought of going out to a restaurant. The food, personal attention, and warm hospitality made for a magical experience. We couldn't have been happier with our choice!

Holidays don't come better than this

Four 50+ and two thirty year olds stayed in Dar Soulahfa for a week for what was a truly magical holiday experience.The riad was beautiful and well maintained, hidden away so that even a walk to the square was memorable. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly.
The food was so good that it put to shame the two upmarket restaurants we ate in. Then we had a joint 50th and 60th birthday party, organised and catererd for by the staff which was one of the most memorable nights any of us can remember. The riad was lit by candlelight,local musicians played into the night. We danced, the musicians danced, the staff danced and it all ended with shared birthday cake and a truly moving 'friendship' ceremony.
Genuinely, it doesn't get better than this.

' Exceptional service. We usually stay at the Mamounia, this is the first time we have tried this kind of accommodation. We were very impressed.'
