Traditional Moroccan home, deep in Fez (Fes) ancient Medina, terrace views

Approximately 300 years old, this dar (house), rather than a riad with citrus trees, has been lovingly restored, with the sensitive addition of modern conveniences such as a fully equipped kitchen & four bathrooms including a bathtub. The original wrought iron balconies & windows have been preserved, as have the cedar woodwork throughout, and the great doors, with doors within the doors, stand proudly at the entrances to salons on the ground floor of the courtyard which is open to the sky, & covered during inclement weather. The zelige, or mosaic tiles, are features in every room. From the furnished terrace, a full panorama of the medina and mountains beyond is yours to enjoy, with your G & T. The Berber style canvas tent provides welcome shade in summer, & the private terrace shower a bather's delight whether by sun, moon or lantern light. Breakfasts are a feature, including fresh orange juice, typical Moroccan pancakes/crumpet/breads & jams. Dinners to be arranged in-house.

Walk out into the odiferous streets, past the camel's head on the butcher's stall; avoid being trampled by mules and donkeys; make good your escape from the wheedling salesman; after these attempts you breathe a sigh of relief having located once again 'Dar El Hana' where, in this tranquil environment it is possible to recharge the battery, then go out and experience the excitement all over again!
