Ways to unwind in the area
Explore the numerous art galleries, craft shops and gardens, and dine at the outside cafes and excellent restaurants. For the adventurous, experience swimming with the Hector’s dolphins, the smallest and rarest in the world, or a harbour cruise with the Canterbury Cat viewing volcanic formations of sea cliffs, seals, penguins, dolphins and sea birds. Try fishing, parasailing, sea kayaking, golf, tennis, a visit to a seal colony, horse trekking and the famous Banks Peninsula walking track that takes a four-day hike along the bays. Visit the Barry’s Bay cheese factory and see cheese in the making, or have a laid-back afternoon wining and dining at the beautiful French Farm Winery just a few minutes' drive away. Indulge yourself in a relaxing massage for one (or two!) at La Lumiere Spa. Laze on the wide, powdery sand beach at Wainui or thrill at the hairpin turns of the spectacular Summit Road with panoramic views of the harbour and the outer bays.
Features of property
With thirteen acres to explore, Kahikatea offers many private spots to relax. Enjoy the duckpond beside a rushing stream rimmed in tree ferns or a quiet bush walk where the only sounds heard are small waterfalls nearby and the birdsong. Laze in a double hammock in a giant Macrocarpa tree. Wander through the garden paths on beautifully landscaped grounds with English flower beds, exotics and native plantings. Or frolic with the doll-faced llamas that make up part of the enchantment of Kahikatea and constitute a breeding and stud operation. Pet sheep and goats complete the picture. For a more cerebral pastime, there is a well-stocked library with over 1000 books. Other activities on the Peninsula can also be arranged. Or you can just sit and gaze at the beauty, and dream.
Te Rangi Description
Te Rangi offers total relaxation in an elegant decor where attention has been paid to every detail. Hardwood floors, Oriental rugs, antiques and original paintings by New Zealand artists adorn the cottage where up to five can be accommodated. The queen bedroom and a comfortable sofabed and sleeping nook in the large living area lead out to a sweeping verandah where breakfast can be enjoyed with dazzling views to the sea. The fully-equipped kitchen offers every convenience for short or longer stays and there is an outside BBQ for summer cookouts. Indulge yourself in the luxurious Italian tiled bathroom with separate shower and a double bathtub with views of llamas grazing. A cottage garden, including kitchen herbs, and a brick patio for sunning await you outside.
