Vila Borboleta ('Butterfly Villa') is a spacious architect designed house standing in its own grounds. It has superb views of the sea and the Monchique Mountains. The prettily tiled pool is surrounded by brick paving and the garden has a colourful display of hibiscus, oleanders and Bougainvillaea. This villa is comfortably furnished with country antiques and traditional Portuguese furniture.

The villa is about 56km west of Faro airport and there is easy access via the motorway. It stands on top of a low hill in a rural area with several small-holdings and vineyards nearby. It is quiet but not isolated. There are pleasant walks in the countryside and along the coast.

The villa is about 2 km from a mini-market, 3 km from the market town of Lagoa, 5 km from Carvoeiro (an attractive and lively fishing village with bars and cafes) and 9 km from Portimao (a large fishing port and shopping centre). Intermarche supermarket is about 3 km on the Lagoa-Carvoeiro road. Golf, tennis, riding and many other sports can easily be arranged. Our maid, Lucilia, comes to clean the villa five times a week and changes the linen and towels once a week. She is happy to do personal laundry and ironing for our guests in return for a small tip. The normal changeover day is Thursday but alternative arrangements can be made before May or after September.

There are many pleasant walks, along the coast or inland,with good habitat for butterflies, birds and a profusion of beautiful spring flowers. Benagil beach is within walking distance and other fine beaches are a short drive away. Fish is a speciality in local restaurants and prices are very reasonable. Interesting trips can be made to Silves, the Monchique mountains,Cape St Vincent and the west coast.
