Situated half-way along the Algarve, Carvoeiro is one of the most popular destinations on the coast. The word 'Algarve' comes from the Arab word 'al garb' meaning the garden, and the surrounding area is rich in Moorish history. The town of Silves, just a ten minute drive away, was the old Moorish capital of Algarve, and is a must for those who like castles, cathedrals and narrow winding streets. Portimão is the second largest town on the coast, boasting a fine marina and many interesting shops. It's from the harbour area that many of the deep sea game fishing boats depart as well as most of the day trips along the coast. The old town of Lagos still retains much of its' original charm as a traditional Portuguese town, I'm pleased to say, and has some of the finest beaches anywhere in Algarve.
In general, there is something for everyone, from water slide parks to local markets, fabulous restaurants to typical tascos. No matter what you like doing on holiday, Algarve has it all.
