The Apartment:
Placed on the 2nd floor of this newly built complex, situated on the award winning Marina de Lagos, the roomy apartment is on one level with wood floors throughout, allowing disabled access. It has a large kitchen. The lift to the apartment can be accessed from the garage level or entrance lobby (stairs from pavement). The bedroom is available with twin beds, which can be pushed together to provide a king size bed with suitable bedding provided for both. We are also happy to provide bedding for the use of the double sofa bed if required. Towels are available, but we ask that you only use your own for the beach. The balcony has lovely views on to the palm garden, here you can watch the birds (house martins, finches), see storks nesting and even occasionally spot hawks, or you can look out across the garden onto the Marina and watch the boats coming and going. It is especially lovely at night when the garden is lit and the lights on the boats and the town beyond dance on the water.
Marina De Lagos:
The modern, award winning, marina is seen as you first enter Lagos from the main road. This complex has views out over the Marina onto the Town beyond. You can use the luxury Marina Hotel Pool, Spa & Gym for a daily charge. Of course the beach (600m away)is free , but there is a new luxury hotel and pool close to Meia Praia beach that you can also use. WiFi is available locally from the hotel and marina bars. Access is very easy with no real need for a car. The train station is at the edge of the Marina and it is only a 5 minute walk into the town itself or the bus station. A tourist train runs from the Marina visits the various beaches and grottos around Lagos. 2 minutes from the apartment is a large supermarket, here you can get local breads, meats, cheese and wine. There is also a launderette here. At the bottom of the 'garden' there are plenty of restaurants catering for all types of palates, from Pizza and sandwiches to modern or Portuguese restaurants and bars
Lagos:
Lagos's seafaring tradition dates back to the 15th Century, when Henry the Navigator sent out his ships to discover the then unknown world. The ancient walls are steeped in history, but nowadays this town has a refreshing, relaxed charm. It is a very easy place to while away some time and is a good base for exploration of the Algarve. In Lagos you can indulge in history, visit the Slave Market where the Portuguese first traded slaves, now a gallery; the Church of Santo António with its golden chapel and attached museum or the Fort and much more. In the evenings you can sit in the Squares or dine outside watching street performers, artists and musicians entertain. At the Marina you can arrange excursions, including dolphin watching, grotto trips, coach tours, sailing trips and much more. Or just relax at the many world famous beaches that surround the town. Further afield you can visit the stunning areas of Sagres, Cape St Vincent or travel inland to Silves and Monchique towns
Golf:
The Algarve boasts a rich sporting lifestyle, particularly in Golf. There are over 30 golf courses, including three of the most magnificent championship courses ever designed: Penina, Vilamoura and Vale do Lobo. In November 2005 the Victoria Clube (6,650 metres and designed by Arnold Palmer) at Vilamoura hosted the World Golf Cup. In the Western Algarve there are 6 proper golf courses starting from Alto Golf, Penina, Morgado, Palmares, Boavista and Parque de Floresta as the most westerly. Palmares, the closest course to our apartment (about 5 minutes by car), over looks the Bay of Lagos offering amazing views. Links style on the outward nine (the par-5 fifth is a 550 metre classic) with rolling country-side on the way back. It has a Pro-shop, driving range, putting and chipping greens also available. We are within 10/15 minutes of Boavista and Parque de Floresta. Many premier football teams are increasingly favouring the Algarve, with the England Team, home teams and other internationals using the Algarve for training. The Faro Stadium (40mins by car) is now home to international matches and Music Concerts (such as U2). The Autódromo Internacional do Algarve Race Track has now opened near Portimao, hosting A1 GP, superbike and F1 testing. This new racing circuit is only a short drive from the apartment (8 minutes) making it an ideal base for visiting future events at this exciting new circuit, tipped as a home for future F1 events, F1 driving stars are seen in Lagos.
