The Algarve, although comparatively small, is a very diverse region. Not only does it have miles of glorious golden coast but it is also surrounded by mountains, valleys, rivers and villages. Although the roads have greatly improved, just a few miles inland, life is much as it has been for centuries. Lagos is one of the most likable towns on the Algarve coast, it boasts of a colorful Marina at the north end of the harbour-front avenue with its vast array of sailing boats, shops, restaurants, bars, etc..
The old part of the town with its ancient city walls is very quaint with cobbled pavements, there is a very interesting museum which must be visited and several very old churches. There are plenty of picturesque old fishing villages along the west coast towards Cape St. Vincent. There are a good variety of restaurants with local and international cuisine, serving excellent fresh seafood & wines.
