The apartment is on the ground floor of a small privately owned condominium set in its own beautiful landscaped grounds with large pool and tennis court. A wall surrounds the entire condominium adding to its privacy, entrance being via electronically controlled gates. Located on a hillside just outside the town the apartment enjoys stunning views over the sea at Meia Praia bay yet is only 20 minutes walk from the centre of Lagos and less than 10 minutes walk to Lagos Marina with its shops and restaurants. A short walk east takes you to open country side and eventually to Palmaras golf course with views out to sea over the Alvor estuary. The large terrace with its table 6 chairs and sunbeds make it an ideal place for enjoying the sun and scenery when not exploring the magnificent beaches of the Western Algarve.

Lagos is a medium sized town lying in the unspoilt western end of the Algarve. Its centre is attractive, featuring much traditional Portuguese architecture and a long esplanade. Fishing boats still operate from one end of the esplanade while the other features an exclusive marina. While Lagos is popular, it retains a friendly family atmosphere and has many excellent restaurants.

Transport: Lagos can be reached easily from Faro airport in around 45 minutes by the new motorway extension which opened in May 2003. We recommend a car as this will allow you to explore the many areas of local interest. However, Lagos can also be reached by train from Faro the station at Faro being only a 10 minute taxi ride away. (cost approx. £7). The apartment is less than 10 minutes walk from Lagos station. Alternatively, Lagos can also be reached from Lisbon airport (around a 3 hour drive).

Golf: The Algarve features many spectacular golf courses and most of them are within a 1 hour drive. Locally to Lagos there are 5 courses to choose from - the championship Penina course, Palmares with its spectacular views and combination of links and forest holes, the new and challenging Boa Vista course, the Alto course at Alvor, and, further to the west, the hilly and more rugged Parque da Floresta course.

Beaches: There are many beaches in the Western Algarve ranging from vast expanses of sand to small rocky coves. The main beach Meia Praia is 4 miles of sand which spans the bay between Alvor and Lagos and is less than 1 km from the apartment. Smaller rocky coves can be found in the town and all along the coast up to Sagres which at the western most tip of the Algarve.

After a 2 hour delay at Gatwick and after an hours drive from Faro airport we arrived later than we had hoped but the map supplied and the details given to us when we booked ensured we found the apartment and obtained the keys with no problems. Julie the agent is helpfull, understanding and we can not thank her enough for all the help she gave us when we needed it. The property is very very comfortable and well equipped. Even down to little items like nail clippers could be found there. The kitchen made cooking a pleasure and we had some of the best meals we have eaten abroad , purchasing local produce from the nearby supermarket.The Nico Rose at 1.49 ( Euro) is a must. The property is well maintained and spotlessly clean. All linen is fresh and in tip top condition.Overall the apartment is well maintained and looked after, simply decorated but with a few touches that make it feel like home.The apartment is in a secure gated complex and is situated not too far from the Marina area of Lagos nor the main town of Lagos . It is strongly recommended to double lock the front door to the apartment at all times as this ensures 100% security. Shutters to the windows and doors add extra security but once rolled back are unobtrusive. For 4 people sharing this apartment it is an ideal place to either explore this area of Portugal or to relax and have a chilled out break. No building works currently being undertaken close to the complex.

The pool offers a wecome escape from the heat and being freshwater makes a nice change from the usual salt water pools.

The walk up the hill can be tiresome in the heat of the day but taxis can be found in the town centre . .

Lagos offers plenty of resturants and bars and English is spoken everywhere. Excellent Tapas Bar near the Museum / Police Station in Lagos. Most resturants offer grilled fish and Portugese dishes and there are many resturants offering food from all over the world. Mandarim( Julies Resturant) comes highly recommended.

A Family week in May!

A lovely, spacious apartment with excellent facilities and very well maintained. We would certainly recommend this property to friends and family. We went with our 2 daughters (in their 20s) as a family get -together and the accommodation was perfect for our needs. The large terrace was ideal for sunbathing and enjoying meals together, and also has a covered area in case it rains (which it did!) The apartment is ideally situated, but the hill from the town to the apartment block may prove tiring to more elderly/very young! The town is interesting to wander around with reasonably priced shops to enter, and there are numerous restaurants to choose from. The fish dishes were excellent, but vegetables sometimes a bit scarce - order a salad to go with the main course. The beach is very clean and makes for a good long walk if it's too chilly to sunbathe & venture into the sea! We love walking, so the location was perfect for us. We would love to go back!
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Girls Getaway, Tourists without a Car, Sightseeing, Families with Teenagers, Families with Young Children, Romantic Getaway
