Western Algarve History:
The western Algarve is a land steeped in history. It was from the small town of Sagres, 32 kilometres west of Lagos, that Prince Henry the Navigator's Caravels set sail on their maritime discoveries.
A few kilometres west again from Sagres is Cape St Vincent, commonly referred to as 'the end of the world' by ancient mariners. East of Cape St Vincent are sheltered coves and warm, tranquil waters, whilst to the west, in stark contrast, are rugged shores pounded by the Atlantic’s rolling surf. With so much ocean accessible, there are wealth of water sports available - from the thrill of windsurfing and big game fishing to the pleasure of sailing and scuba diving.
In addition to the spectacular coastline, you will find peaceful, whitewashed villages set among the lush vegetation of the surrounding countryside. Inland is the forested 'Serra de Monchique' - an area of outstanding natural beauty and the perfect location for walking, cycling and generally appreciating the Great Outdoors.
Golf:
GOLF: The Algarve is a golfer's paradise that inspires enthusiasts from all over the world. With long sunny summers and mild winters, it is the perfect environment for enjoying the great outdoors.
Quinta de São Roque enjoys close proximity to several excellent courses, the nearest being Palmares, a mere 1.5 kilometres away. An interesting course, with fabulous views over the Bay of Lagos, Palmares is a blend of links-style golf on the first nine holes with a second nine that winds through groves of almond and fig trees.
