Our cottage is a charming end of terrace two bedroom quality seaside house (Casa de Praia) with a larger garden situated close to the village church.
The cottage will comfortably sleep 5/6 persons. There are two bedrooms downstairs, balconies and steps to the garden below and bathroom. Upstairs, there is an open plan sitting room with fireplace and dining area as well as a good-sized modern kitchen complete with washing machine to lighten your traveling load. A large balcony commands a view of the the beach and sea with splendid views of the Rocha Negra. This rocky outcrop being an ancient lava flow from an ancient vulcano, now extinct, at Monchique.
Luz beach is below the house within 2 minute walk. There are a number of other local beaches nearby , Ingrina, Salema, Luz, and at Lagos Dona Ana and Praia Grande all with different characteristics, whilst the West facing beaches being the most spectacular and falling within the National Park. Castelejo and Barriga are great and the light house further up the coast is quite something.
Magically on a very still morning a mirage of Casablanca (600 km to the south) may be seen in the horizon, complete with cars, traffic jams and the bustle of images which may be seen blurring into outlines of the city port with ships. This is rarely seen and remains a truly amazing event.
How to get there: Fly to Faro or Lisbon then train to Lagos and Taxi to Luz. Train is approximately 7 Euros. Taxi from Lagos another 4 Euros. Trains do take bikes if you’re cycling. Car rental is available in Luz and at the airport. If selecting a car for the entire holiday in July and August it is best to purchase a voucher with the ticket. Due to better flight connections at Lisbon an increasingly popular alternative to Faro, is to fly to Lisbon and drive down(280KM)as it is motorway most of the way. A stop at the university town of Évora is also recommended, food here is excellent and lots to see. The Alentejo in the summer can be torrid.
Activities: Golf, beach, sailing, fishing and watersports are the major attraction but there is much to captivate one in this part of the world not least the bird life, the night sky, many restaurants, walking, cycling and sea fishing.
Other Activities:
Wonderful beach and cliff top and village garden walks
