Monte sao Pedro is in a valley leading down to the Atlantic Ocean at the golden sandy beach of Praia da Luz approximately 2km away.
Praia da Luz is in the Western Algarve, an area of unspoilt villages and open countryside. Thankfully, the original name of ‘Praia de Igreja da Nossa Senhora da Luz’ (Beach of the Church of Our Lady of Light) has been shortened to Praia da Luz or just Luz (pronounced (Looze or Loosh)
Behind the beach narrow streets of white painted houses lead to the Church and the village centre. The old and the new blend together encouraging you to relax and feel at home.
Praia da Luz was originally a fishing village specialising in Tuna, caught in a long wall of net stretching from the rocks in front of the Fortaleza. Today the fish swim further out to sea and the remaining fishermen work from the harbour at nearby Lagos.
Luz is renowned for its safe sandy beach which is an important part of a holiday for many holidaymakers.
