This spacious detached holiday villa is set in a peaceful location, a short walk from the centre of Praia da Luz and the beach. The 3 bedrooms (one double with en-suite and two twins) can comfortably accommodate up to 8 people. Patio doors from each bedroom lead to the pool area. A spiral staircase, with child gates, leads upstairs to the large, fully equipped kitchen and the lounge/dining room. Three sets of patio doors lead onto the broad balcony with beautiful views over Luz and the Atlantic Ocean. The large 10m x 5m swimming pool is walled for privacy with areas for sunbathing on all sides. The irrigated gardens are well stocked with flowers and fruit trees. An almond grove to the front of the villa adds to the sense of peace and privacy. Fully equipped, including Air Con, Satellite TV ( UK channels), DVD, VCR, CD/Radio/iPod player, telephone, dishwasher etc. Ideal for family holidays. Private parking for three cars.

Praia da Luz is a family resort in the Western Algarve, just outside the attractive town of Lagos. The Blue Flag beach at Luz is a ten minute walk from the villa. At one end of the beach the Black Rock dominates the bay, with its remnants of volcanic activity. At the other end there are rock pools. In between there's a long stretch of golden sand. The paved promenade has a small number of shops and cafés along its length. There are plenty of restaurants in Luz and a good supermarket - all within 10 minutes walk from the villa. With the opening of the A22 motorway, it's a 50 minutes to drive from Faro Airport. Luz is an ideal location to enjoy the local beaches or to explore the rest of the Algarve. The historic town of Lagos, with its wide selection of shos, restaurants and an attractive marina, is just a short ten minute drive away.

Additional information about rental rates

  • Prices are for up to six persons sharing the villa, per week. Extra persons (7th & 8th person) are charged at £5 per person per day (£35 per week each). Normal changeover day is Saturday. Outside Peak and High seasons other changeover days are possible.
  • Long term winter bookings are accepted at negotiated rates - contact us for more details.
    The villa is managed locally in Luz by a management company who will look after your needs while in the resort. A maid service is provided daily (except in winter).
  • Air Conditioning (heating or cooling) is included in the prices shown.
    25% of the rental price is payable at the time of the booking, with the balance due 60 days prior to your holiday. A returnable breakage deposit is usually requested.
    Broadband Internet connection available at £10 per stay (a computer is not provided).

There is room to leave these extra beds made up, making a useful family room for four people. An extra divan single bed can be placed in any of the rooms. Bed linen (duvets) and towels provided (not beach/swimming towels). A cot can be provided (check availability please). Each of the three bedrooms has new fitted wardrobes with plenty of hanging and storage space. All bedrooms have patio doors with access to the terrace and the swimming pool.

Notes: A split cooling/heating air conditioning system is provided in the living rooms/bedrooms, providing a pleasant environment in both hot and cold conditions. Child gates and safety rail on the spiral staircase. Older guests are welcome, although of course the property is on two floors. The stairs are quite easy to negotiate and there are grab rails in the bathrooms. Marina the maid visits each weekday afternoon to clean, look after the linen and towels and to care for the garden. The spacious upstairs balcony has a built in barbecue. The entertainment facilities in the lounge includes a widescreen TV, satellite TV showing basic UK channels, a DVD and VCR. There is an iPod speaker system and a stereo radio/CD/Cassette player.

Access to Local Amenities in Luz: Praia da Luz is developing into a busy resort in the peak summer, but Casa Alimas offers a peaceful position accessible along a cobbled lane in the centre of Luz. The beach, shops and restaurants are all within 10 minutes walk of the villa. There are many good restaurants in Luz and even more in Lagos. The beach is protected by the famous 'Black Rock' headland and is very popular with the Portuguese. There are many quieter beaches within a short drive. The local villa management company can arrange many local leisure activities for you, such as tennis, water sports and horse riding.

Lagos and the Algarve: Between Luz and Lagos there are spectacular caves and grottos, accessible from land at Ponta da Piedade or by sea from various boat trips out of Lagos. The historic town of Lagos is just 10 minutes drive from the villa and has a wide range of good shops and restaurants. The main street fronts onto the river and the elegant marina. There are numerous beaches both to the East and the West of the villa. Other attractions include Zoo Marine - a seaworld park; Family Water Parks; Lagos Zoo (a small but very attractive zoo); Monchique and the hills, Cape St. Vincente ('The end of the World'); and the wilder West Coast. The nearest golf course is at the new Boavista resort just outside Praia da Luz. There are numerous other courses all along the Algarve.

Sam, Norfork: 'First time to Portugal and to a villa. Alimas passed all expectations. The kids loved the pool, and we enjoyed the peace and quiet, along with the views. The surrounding beaches were great and not busy, would go again, no problems.' Andrew, Leeds: 'The villa was superbly located; close enough to walk into a village with all amenities but far enough away from traffic & beach noise to enjoy quiet seclusion. Villa had everything we needed and several days we were happy spending all day just going in and out of the pool !' The villa is totally stunning, with beautiful views of the ocean from the upper balcony and the newly added air conditioning was great. Having your own pool is such a bonus, and I think every day of our stay we had at least one dip ! My wife and I and two daughters (ages 19 and 22) stayed for a week after they had both just finished exams. The villa accommodation is very good. The pool is large and totally private and is surrounded by a lovely garden containing beautiful trees and shrubs. It is deep which was great for us, but may not be ideal for a family with toddlers who can't swim. The balcony provides excellent views and usually a cooling breeze.
It is an easy walk down into Praia da Luz, although a little more effort is needed back up the hill! So a very tranquil location, but a car is not needed if you want to visit a restaurant in the evening.
I would recommend a car to explore the western Algarve and take trips into Lagos which is very close.
The administration and organisation were superb and there are very helpful information packs both in the villa and on the web.
Recommended for:  Girls Getaway, Families with Teenagers, Age 55+, Sightseeing
Owner's Response: Thanks for the review. A quick note about the pool depth: It is about 2.3m (7 1/2ft) in the deep end and 1.1m (3 1/2ft) in the shallow end near the wide steps.

We stayed at Casa Alimas over the xmas/New year period 08/09 and had a fantasic time. The Villa is a beauty and was very well kept. It had everything we needed and a fantastic second floor deck with views out over the sea. Very relaxing place to stay in winter or summer. Good times!

Casa Alimas is in a superb position in Luz - within easy walking of the beach, shops and restaurants, but in very tranquil surroundings. We found the villa to be well equipped, with just about everything we wanted. Highlights for our family were barbecues on the balcony - enjoying the spectacular view; swimming in the large pool and sunbathing in privacy. The kids loved the widescreen TV and appreciated the toys and games provided.

We've enjoyed a number of visits to Luz and were pleased to see that the resort is now looking better than ever with new pavements and a more 'finished' feel to it. Most evenings we would stroll down to one of the local restaurants - who all welcome kids, or stay at the villa for a barbecue. Luz is a very family-friendly resort, where we felt comfortable - and safe - with the kids.

We look forward to returning to Luz and Casa Alimas next year!

Great Villa - Perfect for a relaxing holiday

The arrangements and corresponence prior to travelling to the Villa were all handled very professionally and efficiently.

The Villa itself is about a 10 minute walk out of Luz in a very quiet peaceful area. The overall decor was in good condition and the amenities were very good. The view from the upstairs balcony was beautiful and the pool was great - the kids had lots of fun in it!!

We found Luz a little too "British" for our liking and overall we were a little disapponted in the food. Having said this Lagos is only a 10 minute bus ride away and this is much more varied in terms of culture.

The property was cleaned on a daily basis (excluding Sundays) and the maid did a very good job and was extemely pleasent.

We had a great holiday overall and we could not fault the Villa (air conditioning was an essential). We would certainly recommend to friends and if we travel to Luz again we would certainly stay at Casa Alimas again.
