Modern, well-furnished two bedroom apartment (one double, one twin with double sofa-bed in living room) in quiet location (cul-de-sac) 2 minutes (walk) from beach in Cabanas. Near to Benamor golf course and convenient for trains, car and road to Spain. 3 miles from Tavira, 45 minutes from Faro airport; sea view from terrace. On first floor. Excellent blue-flag sandy beaches with all facilities (2 minute boat trip from town beach). Cabanas is a lovely fishing village with restaurants, bars, local supermarkets and supplies - Everything you need within a few minutes walk. Ideal for couples or young family. Most of our bookings are repeats from clients who come year after year and we stress the proximity to the waterfront and the accuracy of our description. A car is recommended but not essential.

The apartment is 300 metres from the lagoon beach in Cabanas but not on the sea front road which can be busy in August. The fishing village of Cabanas is convenient for beaches, golf, trains (1km), Tavira (5kms), Faro and day-trips to Spain including Seville and the Guadiana river (boat trips). Cabanas is easy to get to just off the N125 between Faro and Spain. Apart from Faro, it is also possible to fly to Seville or Jerez in Spain or Lisbon which is just 3 hours on the motorway. Cabanas has many local charms and its main beach is based on a sand bar forming part of the Ria Formosa Natural Park. The blue flag standard beach is 5 minutes from the apartment. There are great stretches of unspoilt sand and dunes and also modern facilities expected for all families. Restaurants, WCs, sun loungers & shades are all available in the summer season (from June).

  • Rates are now quoted for 1-2 persons (1-2 beds). For 3-4 persons (2/3 beds) ADD 25% except summer peak when add 15%. For 5-6 persons (4 beds) ADD £140 per week (£100 winter). For winter lets (Nov-Apr), ADD £30 per rental to the weekly rate shown (ie/eg. 1 week = £150-250; 3 weeks = £390-690 etc.)
  • 10% deposit required to confirm booking. For 2 weeks or more, deduct 10% from whole booking. Balance to be paid 1 month before arrival. Further discount: Pay deposit 4 months before departure and pay balance 2 months before - deduct 10%. (For 2 weeks or more, both discounts can be taken at 20% of whole booking). Refunds, including deposits, only made in exceptional circumstances with documentation at our discretion, so please take out adequate cancellation insurance before or at time of booking.
    Bookings are usually Saturday 3pm to Saturday 10am (to allow for cleaning).
  • A breakages deposit of 150 euros (150 US dollars or 100 GB£) is required ON ARRIVAL and is fully refunded on departure assuming no damage or breakages have occurred. (You will not be charged for mis-functioning equipment, minor accidental damage etc., so please report any problems for benefit of next occupiers).
    For winter lets only (if heaters are needed, perhaps Nov-March), electricity is charged at cost (10 eurocents per kwh).

The Eastern Algarve, Faro and Spain:: The Eastern Algarve contains the Ria Formosa Natural Park and is an area of rolling hills, dunes and sand bars. Popular with the Portuguese, Dutch and Scandinavians, there are also quite a few British visitors and residents. Faro airport is only 45 minutes away. Spain: Ayamonte (25 minutes car, 1 hour by train/ferry) is an attractive town. The Spanish resorts lie just beyond and extend to the Cota Doñana national park via Huelva and the ports of Columbus. Seville is a 150km but very fast drive (80-90 mins) on the motorway. Jerez is about 2 and a half hours and Cadiz, Ronda and the Costa del Sol 3-4 hours. River trips up the Guadiana between Spain and Portugal can be taken from Vila Real or Ayamonte. Apart from the beach in Cabanas, there are numerous other beaches and resorts within easy reach, by car/public transport, in Spain, the East and West Algarve, and on the numerous islands including Tavira. The 'town' beach in Faro (just behind the airport) is well worth a visit (bus/car).

Tavira, Conceiçaõ and Cabanas:: Tavira: Historic and beautiful town with numerous churches and monuments also has excellent shopping facilities and many restaurants, cafés and bars. The Ilha Tavira beaches are a short boat-trip. The town is easily reached from Cabanas by car (4-5 miles, 10 minutes), bus or train (10 minutes), or taxi (5-7 Euro). The turning right for Cabanas, 5 km (3 miles) east of Tavira, is off the N125 at Conceiçaõ opposite the Benamor golf course. From here it is just over a mile to the front at Cabanas which has numerous restaurants, cafés and bars, shops and a small supermarket with another at Conceiçaõ. Town beach is under 2 mins. walk from the apartment. The boats from here to the Atlantic beaches (2 minutes to cross the lagoon, 4 minute walk to the Atlantic) run every few minutes Mar-Oct. A boat also runs in winter.

Golf, sailing and other activities:: Sir Henry Cotton's Benamor golf course is 2 km (just over a mile) from the apartment to the north of the N125 at Conceiçaõ. Other courses are nearby at Quinta da Ria (2 miles, 2 courses with Quinta de Cima), Castro Marim (15 miles), with further courses within an hours drive in Spain and the Western Algarve. We recommend advance booking from 44 Euro (Benamor) or 26 euros (Castro Marim mid-summer) per round through Manor Houses of Portugal. Tavira plays host to European championship and international sailing events most summers with a sailing club at Quatro Aguas (Tavira front) and marinas within easy reach at Vila Real and Ayamonte.

Just back from our holiday in Cabanas.....
Many thanks to Trevor's agents, John and Una for their welcome - and all the information given.
Trevor and Georgina's apartment is superbly equipped - we've been booking self catering apartments for many years - but have never experienced one as good as this. Whether your preference is to hit the beach, or stay in and cook a meal or bake some fairy cakes - the contents of the apartment will facilitate this (no kidding!). A two minute walk will take you to the nearest ferry crossing to the sand spit - a gorgeous beach on the windward side, where you can either join the madding crowd on the sun beds next to a beach bar, or walk a little further for total privacy.
On personal reflection, we found the town of Cabanas not to be our cup of tea....it lacks character, and has no heart to it. The restuarants are more like cafeterias / snack bars, although we had a couple of lovely meals in the Cabanas Brasserie. Don't be put off with the surroundings - it sits in the centre of a new apartment block - but there you'll find a lovely English chef who is married to a local man. They will make you very welcome, and the meals are beautiful.
There is a fantastic train service to places like Tavira or Olhao besides Faro itself, or in the other direction to Monte Gordo etc. Don't be afraid to use the train service -everyone is extremely helpful - and it's much cheaper than the bus. (You pay on board.)
If you have a car then go along to Cacela Velha and Fabrica - and there you will see the unspoilt real Algarve.
Avoid the UP supermarkets in Cabanas - prices are a total rip off. Get yourself along to one of the nearby Lidl supermarkets (right next to the train station in Tavira or head for Villa Real, take the second turn right for Monte Gordo and it's on your right) and get stocked up for your holiday - prices are a fraction of what you'll pay in Cabanas.
Most of all have a lovely holiday!

Whilst Cabanas may not be quite everyone's cup of tea, it does have great appeal for many, especially the Portuguese from Lisbon, and some English families and couples visit year after year.

We will provide a list of local restaurants as some are very good and give excellent value for money. We look forward to trying the Cabanas Brasserie ourselves - as soon as we find it open!

Local supermarket prices are higher as you might expect on the Algarve coast but won't break the bank unless you try and stock up on Kellogg's or PG Tips! Pingo Doce in Tavira is also very good.
The local transport, especially the trains, are indeed a good way of getting around. See you here soon. Trevor and Georgie.

Cabanas Holiday

This has been our third visit to Trevor and Georgina's apartment. Once again apartment well presented, with a warm welcome from Una. Food, weather and fishing spot on. This apartment is placed in a quiet street, the ferry across the lagoon to the great beach is just a minutes walk away. We will certainly be back.

(Diana - London): Just writing to let you know that we had a great holiday and to say thank you for providing such an excellent apartment. We found it very comfortable and spacious with absolutely everything provided (Ingeburg was great too - really friendly and efficient). Having the two balconies kept things cool day and night and on the one day we were confined to barracks all day (when my daughter felt a bit off colour). It was great being so near to the beach and Francina and I loved making the trip by boat....

(Jennifer, Tony, Paul and Francis, West Yorkshire): Just a note to let you know that the apartment was top class and a big thank you. We realise you have put many hours into getting your service just right. We can't think of anything that was lacking. We had perfect weather too....

(John - November): We had a great time and the apartment was superb - just as the internet information. We had some rain on Sunday but after that it was warm and sunny every day...
