A fantastic property, the quality and finish of this villa is second to none. Situated in the beautiful hills above Tavira, only 5-10 minutes drive to the splendid beaches and golf courses. A delightful, peaceful villa with swimming pool (8m x 4m; depth 1.9m to 1m) and sauna. There are two double bedrooms both with ensuite bathrooms, a lounge area, separate dining room and a large roof terrace with sea and panoramic views. Satellite TV, DVD and fully fitted kitchens. Private parking behind own electric gates.

Tavira, considered to be the most beautiful town in the Algarve, is 5km away, with the river Gilau flowing through the centre, and its 25 churches, and its very friendly people. The nearest village is Sto Estevao, also about 5km away, where you can find a church, post office, restaurant, chemists, two general stores and two bars. Further details With easy access to the IP1 motorway and the EN 125, all amenities can be easily reached. As well as a choice of Blue Flag beaches in the Parque Natural da Rio Formosa, (Nature Reserve), and golf courses, places of interest to visit include local Algarve villages and small towns, such as Sto Estevao, Estoi, St Bras, Cachopo, Vila Real, or further afield, the west coast, Lisbon, or Seville (2 hours drive away). There are ferries to and from the islands across the Rio Formosa, boat trips on the River Guardiano, and for shopping, cinemas or indoor bowling, Forum Algarve in Faro offers entertainment on a wet day.

Beaches: Praia Ilha da Tavira/ Praia das Cascas - A short boat trip from Tavira's jetty. There is a miniature train (it’s not on a track, it’s on wheels). Praia do Barril - an offshoot of Praia Ilha de Tavira. But, you can take a small (and slow) train from Santa Luzia village to this 'island' beach. Praia de Cabanas - on an island just offshore (Ilha de Cabanas), which belongs to Ria Formosa Natural Park. Praia Verde - Just west of Monte Gordo and stretching towards Tavira, this beach has a backdrop of greenery (hence the name). Praia da Amona - The three Islands of Armona, Culatra and Farol act as a barrier to the sea and on the inland side there are the extensive lagoons forming the nature reserve of Ria Formosa. Reaching these beaches can only be done by Ferryboat which leaves from the fishing port of Olhão. The journeys can takes some 30 minutes and leave at about 15 minute intervals during the day – in season each ferry with the destination to one of the three islands.

Supermarkets: Pingo Doce supermarket in Tavira. Cross over the river to get there, closest to the new bridge rather than the Roman bridge. Jumbo hypermarket near Faro, v near to airport (part of Forum Algarve Shopping Centre). Head towards Faro centre from the Airport. There’s a big shopping centre with Pizza Hut, McDonalds and other logos on the building to your left as you head in towards Faro, about a 5/10 minute drive in total. There is also the local market and local butchers as well as lots of smaller supermarkets in Tavira.

Golf: Golf in the Eastern Algarve has been slow on the uptake. However in the last decade or so, some of the best courses have been designed and there are now 4 courses within a 15 minute drive from our properties near Tavira. There are Quinta de Cima and Quinta de Ria within a short walk of each other. There is the oldest Eastern Algarve course of Benamor and also Castro Marim. Benamor – tel: 281 320 880: 18-hole course with Driving Range, Putting Green & Putting Course. Quinta da Ria – tel: 281 950 580: 18-hole course with Driving Range. Quinta de Cima - tel: 281 950 580: 18-hole course with Driving Range, Sister course to Quinta da Ria. Colina Verde (Maragota) – tel: 289 790 110: 9-hole course in the country between Tavira and Olhão. Head for Olhão and Maragota is signposted on the right. No need to book. Open 8am till 8pm.

This place is magical; the photographs don’t really do the place justice. It’s owners, Tracy and Sue lovingly built the villa and lived there themselves, so it really is home from home, with every comfort you can think of. The location is excellent, it is very private & peaceful with panoramic views of both mountain & sea.

It is in a great base for exploring the local area & Spain is only a short drive. The restaurants in Tavira and the local area are excellent & very good value. We love it so much; we have just booked for 2010, which will be our fourth visit!

Beautiful estate

The description of the house, its facilities and its location matched the reality very well. The very last part of the road was a bit bumpy and narrow, but the location is great. We were very well received and got a clean and prepared house. It was always easy to get hold of the owner by phone. We were 4 adults and the space was for us was very well dimensioned. The garden is beautiful and the complete estate was in a very good shape.
We played golf on three different nearby courses, stayed quite a lot at the beautiful Tavira beach and our favourite restaurant was “Brisa do Rio” in Tavira.
I can really recommend this house.

A romantic chill-out

My husband and I were looking for somewhere quiet to recharge the batteries! This was the first time we rented a villa and weren't disappointed. The location was lovely and the villa exceeded our expectiations. It was clean, extremely well equipped and a home from home.

Usually on holiday we do a lot of local sightseeing but this time we were content to hang around the pool, barbecue, read, and partake in the odd bottle of Vinho Verde! It was lovely to wake up in the morning and breakfast on the upper terrace looking over the hills. Tavira was only a 10 minute car journey away with lovely restaurants. The owner had left details of local restaurants that he enjoyed - his recommendations were excellent - we had some memorable nights out.
We are frequent holidayers and have put this break as being one of our top holidays. We returned to Belfast totally chilled and recommended the villa to our friends and family. My parents are hoping to stay there in May. We also have vowed to break our rule of not staying in the same place twice and plan to return again when the pressures of work build once more.

This villa is perfect for 1 or 2 couples who don't want to be out every night partying. We loved it.

Casa Sutra, near Tavira

We were worried that the photographs of the villa were over the top and that the reality may not be as good as the photos. We were stunned - the quality and decor of the villa far exceeded our expectations.
Set far enough up in the hills to be away from the tourist areas (though Tavira is not really geared up for heavy tourism!) but still able to view the sea from the upstairs balcony - fabulous. The night sky is full of stars - fabulous to sit outside by the pool with a glass (or bottle) of wine and just watch the sky.
Two fig trees in the garden provided more figs than the four of us could eat, plus a plum tree and a few grapes.
The owners were extremely helpful and nothing was too much trouble.
I would recommend this to anyone one - but not if it meant we couldn't get it ourselves!! (Actually we booked again the day after returning - having decided within an hour of arriving at the villa that we could go back next year!!!)
