Casa MardiGras is our beautiful and much loved family holdiay home. It is situated in the lovely Vale of Larenjeiro which is set between the delightful village of Moncarapacho and the larger town of Olhao. The inside is modern, extremely well appointed and equipped; a real home from home. The village of Moncarapacho has good supermarkets, a morning market, lovely restaurants, two banks with cash machines and is only a five minute drive. The larger fishing town of Olhao with everything you need is just a ten minute drive. Some of the best fish restaurants on the Algarve are to be found in Olhao. Nearby is the coastal town of Fuzeta lying within the Ria Formosa Nature Reserve. There is a safe and sandy beach there and if you take a 5 minute ferry ride you will be transported to the Isla de Armona which has some of the best beaches on the Algarve. The historic town of Tavira is only 25 minutes east and the fabulous shops and beaches of Faro are only 25 minutes west.

Casa MardiGras is perfectly located for exploration of both the Eastern and Western Algarve region of Portugal and has the added bonus that you can be in Spain on the Costa de la Luz within half an hour. Vale de Lobo which is the epicentre of European golf is half an hour to the west and the historic town of Tavira is the same distance but to the east. The beautiful and sometimes overlooked Faro Old Town takes twenty minutes to reach. All along the eastern Algarve coastline is the Ria Formosa Natural Reserve - an absolute haven for twitchers. Olhao sells the very best fish on the Algarve and the fresh fruit and veg market is exceptional for quality and price. If you want to shop for clothes, Olhao is the place to buy Diesel shoes, Quicksilver, Roxy and all the major clothes labels.

  • Prices are for the property per week in UK Pounds.
    For rental periods in excess of two weeks a discount may be given. Reductions for low occupancy always considered. Winter lets (November - February incl) gas extra at cost. Long winter lets - £1100 per month - gas extra at cost in euros (min stay of four weeks).
    All linen and towels (excluding beach towels) are provided. Cleaning service and linen change is weekly.
  • A deposit (30% non-refundable) is required on reservation. The balance must be paid in full eight weeks prior to your arrival date. For reservations made less than eight weeks before the date of your arrival, full payment is required at the time you book. We do ask for a security/damage bond. Payment must be in GBP.

    Saturday is preferred but we try to be flexible. Property should be vacated by 10.00 am on departure day and arrival should not be planned before 4.00 pm.

  • We have added an outdoor shower for use by the swimming pool. There is also a large utility room with a separate sink for laundry. This houses the washing machine and all the other usual household cleaning equipment, ironing board, iron etc.

Notes: Our single story villa is built in Portuguese style on the outside to blend with the countryside, but the inside is modern, extremely well appointed and equipped. The property is completely fenced and gated to ensure absolute privacy. The 10 x 5 metre pool complete with sun loungers and outside shower is set in a beautiful sun terrace. The house also benefits from large inside terraced areas to protect you from the sun and for comfortable Al Fresco eating. The house is also very well insulated against the extremes of both the summer and winter temperatures. We have excellent Villa Management who are always available to help and advise you.

Golf: There is a local 9-hole golf course and the new golf courses at Tavira and Castro Marim are less than twenty minutes away. The more well-known courses (Villa Sol, etc) are only thirty minutes away, as is the course in Ayamonte, Spain.

Birdwatching: This is a great area for birdwatching. The red backed shrike, the whoopoe and the sardinian warbler have all been seen and photographed from the house together with 'little owl' who visits regularly.

Supermarkets: 'Ali's Super' which is the local supermarket in Moncarapacho is open seven days a week - 8.00 am until 8.00 pm. All four supermarkets in Olhao are open seven days a week. It is advisable to bring euro's cash and then use your bank card for extra withdrawals. The local banks are not up to speed with travellers cheques. Withdrawing money from the cash machines is a simple procedure and transacted in English. There is also an internet cafe in Moncarapacho so you can keep in touch with home and work if you really need to.

Other Activities: This is a also a great area for birdwatching. The red backed shrike, the whoopoe and the sardinian warbler have all been seen from the house.

Short but very sweet!

Hi
This is my third visit to the Casa Mardigras. On every visit the the standards have been first class. The pool and the terrace are outstanding, and as we spend much of our time relaxing in the sunshine this is important too us.
Jamie, who manages the villa, was there on our arrival and the provisions we had requested, including the hire of bikes from the local village were all waiting. We warmed to her immediatley, and she was at the end of a phone if we had any questions.
I have spent years visiting the western Algarve and in many ways feel it has become over commercialised and expensive.
The east side is so different, how i imagine the west used to be years ago. The food is delicious and reasonable, at least half the price of the west. Many of the local restaurents are excellent.
The beaches are stunning, miles of white sand and atlantic waves. Much of the east side is a nature reserve so you have to take a short but interesting boat ride to reach the beach.
To summarise, you can relax in the lovely surroundings of the villa, be in the local village of Moncarapacho sampling the best steak and fish around in five minutes. In ten minutes you can be enjoying a drink at one of the small costal towns watching the sunset. If you feel like a trip over to the west side jump into the car and you will be there in half an hour. Everything you need is at your fingertips. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the villa to friends and family.

A great place to spend two weeks in September!

We thought the villa was great - really comfortable. In 25 years of villa holidays I don't think we have ever found one so well equipped. The weather was kind to us and we had a lovely holiday. The pool was maintained in beautiful condition by Jamiee.

Of the surrounding area we loved Moncarapacho, Olhao, Tavira and Fuseta Island. The beach on the island is just glorious.

Nous avons adorez la maison, très grande et spacieuse pour 8 personnes. La piscine est parfaite. Elle est située dans un endroit tranquille et agréable pour passer des vacances reposantes. Je la recommanderais volontiers.

A perfect holiday.

The family have just returned from a most enjoyable time at the Villa Mardigras. The accommodation was excellent, spacious and with good facilities. We found the villa clean and the agent was there to greet us. Having sole use of a pool was wonderful allowing us swimming at any time of the day. We had BBQs on the terrace and enjoyed the lovely sunsets. The villa is in a quiet and peaceful location but within easy reach of local towns. and we took advantage of this to visit sevaral places. We had two evening meals at the Calibri restaurant which has a very nice atmosphere. It was easy to find places to visit and things to do. Altogether a holiday to remember with pleasure.

Too bad you didn't manage the beach at Manta Rota on this visit - it is spectacular - maybe next time.

We've been here twice and hope to visit again. A large, comfortable, clean and well equipped villa in a peaceful rural setting. Even better than the photos or description. Just a little off the beaten track so you'll need a car. That said you're in easy reach of the coast. My husband has limited mobility and we managed just fine.

A lot of hard work goes on all year round to keep the house in excellent order - especially for our guests who never know when they can afford time off work and may want to book at very short notice.
