Imagine sitting in the shade of an ancient olive tree, sipping a chilled local wine, and listening to the birdsong. Casa Gaia is a wonderful place to relax and unwind, and is suitable for all the family or a group of friends. As the villa is on one level, it is suitable for someone with a slight disability or for grandparents. The villa nestles on the edge of a hamlet, and the 4 bedrooms sleep 8 in 2 double and 2 twin rooms. Baby equipment is available. There is a family bathroom with shower over the bath, and a separate shower room. A lounge with satellite TV and DVD player, including a library of books and games provide a family area. The dining room and well equipped kitchen complete the main facilities. Outside are gardens with olive, almond and carob trees; a multitude of garden furniture including 2 hammocks to laze away those hot sunny days; shady areas for afternoon tea; and a BBQ. The rural location is peaceful, yet central for exploring the 'real' Portugal and its culture.

The Algarve has incredible attractions to suit everyone' tastes and pockets. For example, off-shore are a range of ilhas, or islands. These boast the most incredible beaches - miles and miles of unbelievable sand. To get there is an adventure in itself - by ferry (1 euro); by a Thomas the Tank Engine train; by fishing boat; walking along a causeway; or by car. Wildlife enthusiasts can bird-watch, find unusual and interesting flowers and herbs, and even swim with dolphins. The nature reserve at Olhao is a must with its working tidal mill, replica of a tuna fishing boat, wild bird hospital and hides, and the breeding of Portuguese water dogs. The area is renowned as a golfers' paradise, but most other sporting activities can be found along the Algarve including riding, sailing, bowling, cycling. For those who prefer more leisurely pursuits, there are many fascinating castles and museums. Many activities for children are within a half hour drive e.g. Zoomarine, Slide and Splash.

Golf in the locality.: Colinia Verde is a 9 hole golf course with an amazing range. This is situated 10 minutes away from Casa Gaia. Benamor, near Tavira, is an exquisite 18 hole golf course (about a 25 minutes drive). Other golf courses are 30-35 minutes by car.

Getting around and about. : A car is essential to take full advantage of the area. Trains are an interesting way to travel the coast of the Algarve. They are cheap and run to time. However train stations are sometimes a distance from the centre of towns, so please investigate before travelling by train. Buses are unreliable and infrequent. In Tavira, and the larger tourist towns, a road train runs - this gives a flavour of the town. Also a horse and carriage is usually available for the less energetic. Spain is half an hour's drive - either via the Guardiana Bridge or by ferry from Villa Real. Boat trips around the lagoon or up the Guardiana are popular and very interesting.
