The property is 500 yards from the sea. Located next to the Pestana Atlantic Gardens Hotel (which is serviced by an hourly airport bus shuttle) and is about 1 km from the centre of Cascais. It is 12 kms from the fascinating historic town of Sintra (regular bus service); 30 km from the centre of Lisbon (35 minutes train journey along the river); and 34 Km from Lisbon International Airport. One mile away from Oitavos Golf Course, the 2005 Portuguese Open venue, with the Quinta da Marinha Golf Course next door; Penha Longa, Estoril, and Beloura golf courses are within 15 minutes drive (see golf information below). The weather is hot and sunny in the summer, with a refreshing breeze off the sea. Spring and autumn are generally mild. Rainy days can occur in winter, but it is rarely cold.

Location
The charming, historic town of Cascais has plenty to visit as well as restaurants, nightlife, cultural events, cinemas with films in English and shopping. It is close to the romantic world heritage town of Sintra and half an hour from the centre of Lisbon. There is a good beach in Cascais and nearby Guincho is world famous for surfing. Six of Portugal’s best golf courses are within a ten minute drive and discounted green fees are available. Located next to the Pestana Atlantic Gardens Hotel this property is also ideally situated for those wanting to take a break with plenty to do but without having to rent a car. Within walking distance, there is a full range of shops, two gyms, spa facilities and a beautician. A beautiful cliff top cycle path runs from the apartment to the beach in one direction, and Cascais and its marina in the other. Bicycles are available free of charge.
Getting there and around
Less than two hours flight from most European cities and seven hours from New York, the apartment can be reached by car or taxi from Lisbon Airport in 40 minutes via the A5 motorway or the more scenic road along the river to Cascais. From the town centre follow directions to the Pestana Atlantic Gardens Hotel, which is adjacent to the Jardins da Gandarinha condominium where the apartment is located. There is a full variety of local shops and restaurants within walking distance. There is a bus service (BusCas) every seven minutes to the town centre and train station. Taxis are close by or can be ordered. The picturesque train ride along the Tagus river estuary to Lisbon takes 35 minutes. Organized tours can be arranged from the Pestana Hotel next door.
Golf Details
Portugal is a paradise where the golfer can play almost every day of the year. Every course offers new and surprising landscapes, backed up by excellent services and facilities. There are six courses within a 8 km (5 mile) range, with plenty to offer beginner and advanced players. Oitavos Golfe and Quinta da Marinha are par 71 courses within 5 minutes drive; Penha Longa, Estoril, Beloura and Estoril-sol are within a quarter of an hour. There are a further 11 courses within an hour’s drive. Negotiated 18 hole rates start at €40 and golf passports can be arranged. 1/ Oitavos Golfe lies within the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park, by Arthur Hills. Hills has maintained and preserved the unique characteristics of the land, creating a 6.303 metre, par 71 golf course. The environmental certification was done in cooperation with Audubon International, an American environmental association. See continuation below!

2/ The Quinta da Marinha course was designed by the legendary Robert Trent Jones, laying out the course over 6,071 metres for a Par 71. This Course was the 1988 host of the Quinta da Marinha Ladies Masters and in 2002 was host to the Estoril Open (PGA Tour Event). 3/ Quinta da Penha Longa is a relevant historical site, having housed Portuguese kings. Over the past 600 years Penha Longa has undergone several changes and many buildings have been constructed there, such as the Palace, the Church, the Fountain of Tears, the Fountain of St. Gonçalo and the Palace of the Marquis of Angeja. Designed by golf architect Robert Trent Jones Jr, the course which is 6,290 metres long off the championship tees. 4/ Estoril Golf Club dates back to 1929. The 18-hole course was designed in 1945 by Mackenzie Ross, one of the best golf architects in the world. There is another nine-hole course, normally used by beginners. 5/ Beloura is the most recent golf course on the Estoril Coast, set in a 60-hectare area halfway between Cascais and Sintra. It was designed by the American architect Rocky Roquemore. Its eighteen holes, with excellent views over the Sintra mountain range, extend over 5,878 metres for a par 72. 6/ Estoril-Sol is a small par-3 nine-holes, excellent course for beginners. The practice centre offers players the possibility of visualising all the strokes they may have to make in a real game on the course.

‘We have already booked it again for next year, that says it all! We had a lovely time, the weather was perfect. The pool and condominium were nice and quiet for a relaxing holiday. Cascais town centre offered a good selection of restaurants. The shops and bakers were even closer than we had expected. The apartment was light and airy with very good views.
