Visit Gerónimos Monastery where Christopher Columbus and Vasco da Gama prayed before discovering the New World and the sea route to India, Royal Ajuda Palace, naval museum and Belem Tower (a medieval prison). DAY TRIP to ALCOBAÇA 12th century Abbey; BATALHA cathedral built to commemorate the victory of the Portuguese over the Castilians at the battle of Aljubarrota in 1385; OBIDOS the walled city; the fishing village of NAZARÉ.
