Sunny house with garden and pool. 30 minutes from airport in an area offering beaches, mountains, culture, shopping, water sports, golf, riding and more. We are about 10-15 minutes walk from the beach and town in a quiet residential area with no high rise apartments. Guest garden flat is totally separate and has a private entrance also. The garden and pool are also for exclusive use of guests. Benefit of assistance when possible. Cascais, nearby, has beaches, cafés, pubs and shops. There is a promenade along the water with beach coves and sunny cafés. Casa da Guia nearby, overlooks the ocean with restaurants and cafés set in the grounds of the old manor house with stylish shops and boutiques. Sintra also nearby is a dramatically beautiful mountain village with castles to explore like Quinta da Regaleira as well as cafés and shops. 5 mn drive North from the house on a beautiful coastal road is the lighthouse at Cabo da Roca the most western point of Europe, Praia Adraga, Azenhas do Mar.

House #24 is light and airy with wooden floors and plenty of double glazed windows with sun streaming in all day. It is in a quiet culdesac, has 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms (one with Jacuzzi), and can sleep up to 7 comfortably. The private garden in back is lush and spacious with exotic plants. Around the pool is perfect for sunbathing and there is a baby pool attached. Great hit with babies and toddlers. Beautiful poolside eating area. Private parking inside gate.

Cascais is located just 25 km west of Lisbon (25 mins from Airport)along a spectacular coast which begins at the Tagus estuary and takes you to the westernmost point of Europe - Cabo da Roca. Cascais has beaches, cafés, pubs and shops. There is a promenade along the water with beach coves and sunny cafés. Casa da Guia nearby, overlooks the ocean with restaurants and cafés set in the grounds of the old manor house with stylish shops and boutiques. Sintra also nearby is a dramatically beautiful mountain village with castles to explore like Quinta da Regaleira as well as cafés and shops. On the North side of Sintra a beautiful coastal road takes you to the lighthouse at Cabo da Roca the most western point of Europe, Praia Adraga, Azenhas do Mar. There are 2 free rental bike stands down in Cascais at the train station and at Casa da Guia. Just leave some identification and take them for the whole day. Ride along the ocean cliffs on the walk/bike path.

By nature of its construction, the area is cool in summer, warm in winter. Plenty of light, environment is also clean and non-allergic. No smoking please! Apartment includes all modern conveniences for self-catering, so you need bring nothing except yourselves!. Garden features luxury pebble pool (9 metres diagonal) with deck to work on your tan. Further deck up stairs (fenced) with awning, sun chairs, barbecue & large tables to feast in sunshine or for candlelit dinners (electric lights also)! Cascais is walking distance (10-15 mins on foot), Estoril 5 minutes by car. Coastal train ride to Lisbon is 35 minutes (shopping & culture), Sintra mountains (hikes and castles) 20 minutes, Guincho beach (Surfers Paradise), 15 minutes. Good night life can be found locally or in Lisbon.

Golf Details: There are 5 golf courses locally, all within 2-5 miles. 1. Estoril Golf -designer-Mckenzie Ross- 2 courses- 18 hole, 69 Par, 5238m, Championship course. 2. Golf Estoril-Sol - designers are John Harris / Ron Fream - 9 hole, Par 31, 1749M Beautiful. 3. Penha Longa is a two course location - main course 18 hole is par 72 and 6228 metres in length. Our family of 5 visited Portugal in June. We had booked this property several months in advance as it was already busy for the summer.
We were picked up Saturday morning by Jose (organised taxi service - spoke English (:-) and we dropped off our bags. We had to wait till 3 till the place was ready as other guests had left that morning. We took the opportunity to walk around the charming town of Cascais and ate some really good chicken in town centre (Nandos eat you heart out!).
We found the living area a little small but cozy. The house was refreshingly cool after basking in the hot sun by the pool. Lovely garden where we spent most late afternoons after sightseeing and this memory is what remained with us after we arrived back home.
The owner had rented us a car on the second day which was very useful for trips to the other side of the river, Sintra, and some lovely beached along the coast - Guincho beach was brill complete with surf lessons!
The area is quiet and fairly central with the walk to town not a problem. There is a fab market on Wednesdays and Saturdays in Cascais. You could be in south America, and it's well worth getting fruit and veggies there. On Wednesdays they sell clothes and you name it!
The restaurants in the area offered much choice and we cannot say we had bad meal. Vicky (who lives upstairs) was helpful in giving us good tips.
Our car was picked up from the property by the hire company on the last evening and Jose drove us to the airport saving us travel stress!
Portugal, we will be back!

Cascais & Estoril

Nice place, well maintained and clean (although the washing machine was playing up the week we were there). Good interior with plenty of room for 3 or 4 but would be a bit cramped for any more than that. Excellent exterior including large enclosed garden and good size private pool. Overall enjoyed the stay - only real downside was that it was a good 15-20 minute walk down the hill to the town centre and train station (which wasn't properly pointed out when we booked). The walk down wasn't a problem so much as the walk back up, especially on very hot days and if you were carrying shopping. Could pose a problem for families with small children (although the garden & pool would be an obvious bonus) and people with mobility problems could be a bit hampered. A company called Done & Dusted maintained the property and their representatives were very helpful, also giving us ideas for day trips and excursions (they even helped us book a taxi from the property one night). Otherwise, we used the train a lot to travel to & from Lisbon and all points between (a 5 day pass cost around 45 Euros for the three of us and could be used as much as we liked within the period). The train journey between Cascais & Lisbon takes around 30 minutes and trains are clean and very punctual; also great views as it runs along the coast all the way. Metro in Lisbon also very reasonable and punctual - one zone covers most of the city and a day return is under 2 Euros within that zone. Estoril Casino is also worth a visit, even if you aren't a gambler. We enjoyed a very good dinner & show on the Wednesday evening - prices range from 45 to 60 Euros dependant on which menu you go for. We booked online before we went as it does tend to get busy, especially at peak season. Children can go to the shows but they must access the showroom through the garden entrance as no-one under 18 is allowed in the casino area itself. Plenty of good restaurants in Cascais and the beaches are all usually clean and well maintained.
