Quinta do Vale das Donzelas (Valley of the Maidens) / Nordstjärnan (Northern Star) is a totally secluded bohemian villa with uninterrupted views over the Atlantic Ocean, from Praia das Maçãs to Peniche, the valley of Colares and the Estremadura plain to Mafra Convent. The house, surrounded by a garden and wood forest, is set within a 10.000 square metre plot of land. Nature lovers can enjoy long walks in the wild garden, pick fresh fruit from the trees and meet the resident eagles and owl, or simply contemplate the ocean, the sunset or the stars from the terraces. The neighbours provide home-grown biological vegetables. Vegetarian food is available in Almoçageme, 2 km from the villa, where a traditional market is held on Saturdays and Sundays. Adraga beach, only two kilometres away, was ranked as one of the ’20 perfect European beaches’ by the Sunday Times in 2003.

Additional information about rental rates

  • (1) A non-refundable deposit of € 250 per week is required to confirm the booking. The balance to be paid at least 30 days before occupation. Confirmation of reservation will be made in writing on receipt and clearance of the deposit. Should the booking be done on a shorter notice, the full payment is required to confirm the booking.

    (2) A complete inventory of the villa equipment will be sent beforehand. Tenants will have the opportunity to notify the owner upon arrival about any equipment failure.

    (3) An extra security deposit of total amount € 200 is required to ensure the villa and equipment normal maintenance by the tenants. Should no damage be observed, it will fully transferred back at the latest one month after rental conclusion.
  • (4) Changeover usually takes place on Saturdays at midday.

    (5) In July and August, priority will be given to guests reserving the villa for a minimum period of 2 weeks.

Notes: The multi-levellled villa is NOT SUITABLE for young babies: no railing on the inside and outside stairs. Extra storage room suitable for bikes, surf boards and golf clubs. Several terraces (east, north, west), 8 garden chairs, 7 garden tables. Parking inside property for one compact car and outside up to 3 vehicles. The villa is heated in winter and upon request (radial heating in the floor, radiator in the kitchen). Logs are provided for the fireplace, which also warms up the main bedroom on the first floor. Maybe just as a charming, peaceful villa within a small, lovely village. A sunny and flowered terrace offers you a spectacular sea view. The interior is spacious, comfortable, and furnished in good taste. The garden, with its overgrown vegetation, is a real harvest of peace and fragrances. Nothing better to recharge the batteries and to rest. The place is both secluded and within a short distance of the sea (10 minutes only). In 45 minutes you can be in Lisbon. 'Un accueil personnalisé, les produits régionaux à la cuisine, la présence discrète du propriétaire : tout est mis en place pour que l’on se sente chez soi dès notre arrivée. Fantastic week in Colares

The villa was super. Most difficultly we had was deciding which deck to have dinner on. Great location, close to 3 wonderful beaches, Adraga was our favorite.(seafood , cervajvia and wonderful surf.) Farmers markets on the weekend provided fresh produce for our dinners. Close enough for a base to the sites but secluded and private enough for morning yoga in the garden. The villa was perfect for reading, writing or just thinking. Locally Fernada and her son Bruno were very friendly and welcoming while Guillaumane (via Paris and e-mail ) was very accomodating and helpful with our questions and requests. A very special place in a very special country.

Wir haben zu sechst zwei wunderbare Wochen in der Quinta verbracht. Eine so romatische und stilvoll eingerichtete Villa haben wir selten erlebt.
Bei unserer Ankunft erwartete uns bereits ein kleines Körbchen mit wichtigen Dingen wie Kaffee, Brot, Wasser und Wein. Die Haushälterin hat einen schönen Blumenstrauss bereitgestellt, so dass wir uns wirklich willkommen fühlten. Alle Zimmer und der Garten sind in einen sauberen und sehr gepflegtem Zustand gewesen. Die Villa ist wunderbar angelegt und der Garten raubte uns den Atem. Zwei wunderbare Terrassen die wir ausgiebig nutzten. Besonders die Terrasse an der Küche lädt zum ausgiebigen Essen bei Sonnenschein ein. Hier scheint fast den ganzen Tag die Sonne, man kann in der Sonne frühstücken und besonders am Abend wird die Villa in ein herrliches glutrotes Licht getaucht.
Bei trockener Luft kann man den Atlantik und sogar die Wellen sehen. Aber auch bei dem leicht feuchten Klima in den Bergen von Sintra ist alles sehr schön und romantisch anzusehen. Unsere Blicke schweiften immer wieder über das gesamte Tal.
Im Nachbardorf Almocageme findet sich ein wunderbar sortierter Mini-Mercado mit vielen Köstlichkeiten Portugals und sogar mit täglich frischen Brötchen. Auch Samstags und Sonntags ist hier geöffnet. Ebenso kann man in den typisch portugiesischen kleinen Restaurants des Ortes wunderbar lecker und preiswert speisen. Achtung: Montags geschlossen!!! Wir waren schon mehrfach in Portugal unterwegs, aber solch eine schöne Natur haben wir selten erlebt. Die Vegetation erinnert fast an die Tropen. Kulturell gibt es in um um Sintra viel zu entdecken, besonders hervorgehoben sei hier nur die Quinta da Regaleira...ein wunderbarer, vielleicht sogar verzauberter Garten.
Ausflüge nach Lissabon dauern mit dem eigenen Auto ca 40 min. Jedoch empfiehlt es sich auch, mit der Bahn von Sintra zu starten. Das ist weniger stressig, dauert nicht länger und man landet entspannt direkt am Rossi, einem zentralen Punkt Lissabons.
Zum Baden laden drei Stände ein, jedoch ist der Praia do Maca nicht sonderlich empfehlenswert. Am ruhigsten ist der Praia da Adraga. Für Kinder und Wellenreiter am besten geeignet ist aber der Praia Grande. Aber das ist Geschmackssache.
Also alles in Allem ein gelungener Urlaub, vor Allem auch wegen der wunderbaren Unterkunft. Ein kleiner Hinweis noch. Ein Einzelbett ist ungüstig im Wohnzimmer untergebracht. Ansonsten stimmte alles.
