This tranquil apartment is enormously popular. Self-contained, it forms the first floor of an immaculate, well appointed private house hovering above the ocean at Garajau only 15 minutes drive from the capital town of Funchal and 5 minutes walk from a well stocked small supermarket, an ATM, a pharmacy, buses, taxis and a few good restaurants. The open plan sitting/dining room, with well-equipped kitchen and laundry behind, has large French windows leading out to a spacious terrace offering indoor/outdoor living all year round. The two bedrooms have the same uninterrupted views south over the sea. This is an idyllic retreat where you will be warmly welcomed by the friendly and helpful owner, Tina, who speaks English and Portuguese and is a fund of knowledge on all you might want to know about the island. Repeat guests return to enjoy the comfort and superb location, grateful to be so near the charming city of Funchal and yet apart from the normal tourist zone.

Notes to the rental rates

• Special 'Late Deal' rates available 01 AUG - 03 SEPT 08. Special additional guest charge 56 euros per week. Rates shown above are per week for 2 guests.
  Normal additional guests rates are charged 70 euros per person per week. Price includes - cleaning, towels and bed linen. Guests staying over 10 nights have a midweek cleaning, change of bed linen and towels. 'Welcome Basket' of basic provisions is provided on arrival.

Payments are accepted euros by credit card or by electronic bank transfer. A 30% deposit must be paid at the time of booking with the balance due 6 weeks prior to arrival. In the immediate area

Within 3-5 minutes' walk you have various cafés and good restaurants including one which offers excellent take-away meals, a bakery and supermarket with ATM, a pharmacy, taxi rank and bus stops. Internet access is available in the excellent art shop. At Caniço, only 5 minutes away by car/taxi/bus, you have a full range of shops, restaurants and banks. Tina finds that many guests enjoy indoor swimming at the Dom Pedro Hotel 3 minutes walk away or you may prefer swimming in the sea or seawater pool at the new five star Galo Hotel in nearby Caniço de Baixo for a small charge. The charming city of Funchal is only 15 minutes away by car or 25 minutes by bus.

Walking

Madeira is a walker's paradise and Garajau is a good location from which to explore different parts of the island using the levadas which cover the island, extending to over 2000km in total. You will find walking books in the apartment and we recommend a guided walk for those who are not familiar with the island. Tina can help you with this.

Gardens

Plant lovers are in their element in this area of Madeira. Local gardens include the Botanical Gardens with adjacent Orchid Garden, Palheiro Gardens or Monte Palace Gardens.

Golf Information:

Golfers will find two superb golf courses within easy reach - the 18-hole championship Palheiro golf course and the 27-hole Santa da Serra golf course, both with spectacular views. A 3rd course is under construction 45 mins drive to the south-western part of the island and a 4th is planned at São Vicente. Tina can help you access discounted green fees.
