A waterfront penthouse apartment at the end of the oceanfront well lit and paved promenade of Caniço de Baixo about 50 metres from Reis Magos Beach. Caniço de Baixo is on the sunny southern coast overlooking the ocean. It is a beautiful sea level coastal tourist resort, with several very good local restaurants, resort hotels and bars. The apartment is within walking distance and easy access to some of the nicest lavada walks in Madeira and a short distance from two golf courses. It is an ideal location for those who want a resort holiday away from the busy city of Funchal. Surrounded by hotels with indoor and outdoor swimming pools and full leisure centres and next to the limpid waters of the Atlantic, Caniço de Baixo offers three excellent diving schools within walking distance with perfect conditions for diving. Penthouse beachfront apartment situated at the end of the promenade in the quiet, residential, seaside resort of Caniço de Baixo, 50 metres from the “Blue Flag” Reis Magos Beach. Reis Magos Beach has a breakwater, which makes swimming very safe. Caniço de Baixo is a beautiful coastal tourist zone with a Lido & three diving schools. It also has a number of 5 star hotels with indoor & outdoor swimming pools, spa, Jacuzzi, sauna & gymnasiums. There is also an excellent selection of local restaurants. The promenade is well lit, paved & beautifully landscaped There are Parrot fish, Damsel fish & hundreds of others just below the surface of the water. The village of Caniço with a shopping centre and supermarkets is about 2 km away. Funchal the capital of Madeira is approx. 12 km and the airport is 13 Km. Car Hire is NOT necessary, as a local bus runs hourly to Funchal and other locations on the eastern side of the island. The bus stop is about 50 m from the apartment. Golf is 7Km away.

Notes to the rental rates

  • Property rental per week 2-person occupancy. Occupancy all Season £360 per week for the apartment. We charge an extra £30 if a third person shares.
    There is no variation across the seasons. We appreciate that Christmas and New Year is very special in Madeira and thus attracts both holiday makers and Madeirans wanting to be with their families. But unlike many of our competitors, we appreciate that flights are more expensive over the Christmas and New Year period, and so do not also charge a premium rate for our apartment.
    A deposit, payable to Kilrush Estates Ltd., for £100.00 per week booked is required to confirm a booking. Any request to reserve the apartment must be followed by a deposit within 10 working days.
    Changeover day is flexible.
  • Veranda all around the apartment, facing east, north and west. All with superb sea views.
    You will need to arrange and book your own flights. Flights on charter airlines can be booked via the web or any travel agency.
    Charter Flights are available from all major airports, including Birmingham, Bristol, Exeter, Gatwick, Glasgow, Manchester and Luton as well as other regional airports. In addition Easy jet fly daily from Stand stead and Gatwick and 3 times per week from Bristol
    If you make an enquiry by email and you do not get a response within 48 hours, please telephone us.
    Transfer to and from the airport arranged. Once you have cleared customs & collected your luggage, you will be met by your taxi in the arrivals hall. Payment can be made direct to the driver. The charge is 25.00 Euro each way.
  • Car Hire
    We do not recommend booking car hire before leaving the UK, because if you need a car you may only do so for a few days rather than for the full week. Indeed upon arrival you may decide to use taxis or public transport as both are very cheap.

Notes:

The local restaurants are excellent, with a lovely friendly atmosphere. Three of the local hotels each offer indoor [heated in winter], & outdoor swimming pools. All have a Jacuzzi, sauna & gymnasium. One also has a health and beauty centre, massages, beauty salon, spa treatments. They each offer a Happy hour 18.30 to 20.00 with nightly entertainment – outside guests are made most welcome. The Apartment is serviced by two lifts Weekly maid service The kitchen is equipped with everything one should need. TV and Radio provided. Local stations, Sky News, Sky Sport & BBC Prime only. Linen and towels are also provided, but beach towels should be taken for sunbathing. The apartment is on the 13th Floor in a residential complex. As a 2-bedroom apartment, it offers excellent spacious accommodation in a quiet well maintained complex with breathtaking & beautiful sea views. Hiking & Walking

Canico de Baixo is a good location from where one can hike and walk the islands amazing levada irrigation system spanning 2,500 kilometres, which meander round the mountains. The beautiful verdant island of Madeira (wood) is Portugal's 'Jewel in the Atlantic' and is considered one of the most beautiful islands in Europe. It has a spectacular & varied landscape of breathtaking proportions. Its wonderful luxuriant flowers & plants bloom all the year round. The landscape is covered in a green mantle of rich subtropical foliage. The variety and profusion of flowers makes the island a permanent floating flower show. Birds of paradise, with their bright orange beak-like flowers blossom in open fields. Fragrant hydrangeas line walking paths [levadas] that skirt the edges of mountain terraces. The island is a haven for anyone who enjoys being outside, whether your taste runs to gentle walks or hiking

Madeira

Madeira's system of irrigation channels, known as levadas, carry water down from the mountains on gentle gradients. These levadas provide a ready-made system of trails. There are 1,300 miles of them crisscrossing the island and they have level footpaths running along their entire length. Walkers of all ages & abilities can take in some of the finest countryside anywhere. Its greatest attraction is the subtropical climate, sometimes referred to as the 'island of eternal spring'. Even in winter the temperature rarely falls below 17C and rarely exceeds 23C in high summer. Madeira is a place of moderation in most things. A haven of civilised peace, where respect and old world manners have yet to become outdated. The people are gracious, helpful and friendly. The landscape and vegetation coupled with the ever-friendly Madeirans and appetising food combine to ensure that Madeira is a place of immense appeal which draws one back again and again.

Golf Information:

Golfers will be pleased to know that the new Palheiro golf course is about 7km away. Classic Madeiran hills, ridges and deep valleys have all been incorporated into the terrain to produce a dramatically interesting course, with stunning views. UK visitors are made very welcome and we can arrange for our clients to be included in some informal rounds of golf at the Club. The spectacular 27-hole Santo da Serra golf course [also known as Campo de Golfe part of the PGA European Tour] is also within easy reach - 13 km away. This is Madeira’s oldest golf course. It sits high up on a plateau and is marvelously scenic with inspirational views back up the mountains and out over the Atlantic below.

We have just spent 2 weeks in this excellent apartment, including New Year. The Fireworks at New Year were amazing, lots of Cruise Liners come specially to watch them.

A taxi is organised to pick you up at the airport and take you to the apartment which is about 15 mins. away. The apartment was scrupulously clean with big picture windows and superb views of the sea and coast. The beds were very comfortable, with quality linen and plenty of blankets if required. There are also plenty of radiators if the evenings get a bit cool.

The apartment is right in the centre of Canico de Baixo with lots of cafes and restaurants serving quality food at very reasonable prices, or you can cook for yourself in the apartment kitchen. There is a first class bus service to Funchal via several very interesting villages, and there are plenty of walks and sea or pool bathing close by. Go to the old part of Funchal and look for little restaurants with Madeiran customers. The food is brilliant. Not Madeiran, but superb authentic Indian food, is the Bombay Palace by the Lido. Never tasted Indian food like it! Or go by bus to Canico and have lunch and explore this quaint village. Stock up at the supermarket there which is much cheaper than the resort markets.

All in all a most enjoyable fortnights holiday, we have actually been there before, and we will certainly be going again.
