Additional information about rental rates

  • Included in the above rentals is the cost of transporting you and your party from the airport to the house(a 25/30 minute taxi ride). Also included is a personal visit by our housekeeper within a very short time of your arrival to help settle you in plus a welcome pack is left for you(you can have a cup of tea and biscuit immediately !).
    The above prices allow up to four people to occupy the house. However, the house will sleep up to six people comfortably. Please add £90 per person per week for extra people. Easter weeks are charged at 850 pounds per week for up to 4 people and 1000 pounds per week for up to 6 people.
    For TWO PEOPLE only we can offer a 10% discount off the above prices.

    Wifi Internet service is available by prior notice. The cost of this is £13 or 15 Euros per week. Please book and pay for this service in advance. Adjacent to the main house is a one bedroom apartment to sleep up to three people. This costs from 250 pounds to 275 pounds per week for 2 people.
  • There is a 30% booking deposit with the balance and damage/cleaning deposit payable 6 weeks before the start of the stay. Bookings within the six week period are to be paid in full. Payment can be made in Sterling or in Euros or by debit or credit card. You are strongly advised to take out Holiday Cancellation Insurance. Should you wish to cancel after you have paid the full amount we reserve the right to retain the money until such time as we have managed to relet the property. An admin fee of £25 will be retained in the event that we are able to return some or all of the monies paid to us. Should you wish to cancel after you have paid only the 30% deposit this sum will be returned less £25 admin fee up to 8 weeks before the start date of your intended stay.
  • There will be returnable damage/cleaning deposit held of £250. As soon as clearance has been given by the housekeeper/caretaker the money will be returned.

  • The main family bathroom is fully tiled and has a bath with shower over, basin, bidet and WC. The en-suite bathroom is also fully tiled and has a bath with shower over, basin and WC. Downstairs there is a cloakroom with a WC and wash hand basin. There is also an outside shower, WC and a washing machine plus an area for hanging out washing and for leaving walking boots, haversacks, etc. Note: Beach towels are not provided.

  • Bedroom 1 has a extra large Mahogany bed, a dressing room and en-suite bathroom. A door leads on to the afternoon sun terrace which has an attractive pergola complete with masses of bougainvillea flowers. Bedroom 2 has a four poster standard size bed and Easterley views. Bedroom 3 has a single bed together with built-in cupboard and shelves. Bedroom 4 has a pretty single day bed and doubles up as a second sitting room with access to the sun terrace with views of the city and a distant view of the sea and Madeira's coastline. Family bathroom is on the first floor. There is also a downstairs cloakroom and outside toilet and shower. If you are staying for at least two weeks a change of linen and towels will be provided by our housekeeper.

Notes: Well behaved children are welcome but no children under 6 years old, please. The property is ideal for guests requiring a one/ three week holiday, and it would also be possible to rent the house for a longer period at a negotiated price. Although there is no pool, use of the swimming pool of a nearby hotel set right on the seafront, with access to the sea, can be arranged at a reasonable daily fee. There is a poolside restaurant/bar offering excellent fare. Excellent walled patio garden to the front of the house with outside table and chairs, and a few Portuguese neighbours living nearby. Although we are minutes from the town, sometimes it feels like the country with the sounds of Portuguese daily life - the cock crowing, chickens clucking, birds twittering and the dogs barking - that's Madeiran life for you! Internet service can be provided by prior arrangement. WIFI + Ethernet cable Broadband available at a cost of £13 or 15 Euros per week, but please book and pay in advance.

Arrival arrangements: As part of the package you will be met by our friendly and helpful taxi driver - Jose Manuel - who speaks good English. He will take you to the house, help you with your luggage and let you in. You will find basic supplies of milk, tea and bread, etc, left for you in the house where you will also find a helpful folder which will give you a lot of information and help you make the most of your visit. His telephone number is 00351 91 788 3144. He would also be available to take you on full or half day trips anywhere around the island. He has a six seater taxi - up to 4 people costs €110 per day(€65 for a half day) and 5 or 6 people €135 per day(€75 for a half day). We also own a one bedroom apartment that is adjacent to the house and it will sleep up to 3 people. We love our second home and we hope that you will enjoy staying in 'Quinta Elena' as well. Golfing on Madeira and Porto Santo: There are three courses to choose from - two on the Island of Madeira and one on the Island of Porto Santo. On Madeira itself the Palheiro Golf Course is an 18 hole course and is the most recently constructed and has wonderful views of the surrounding countryside and of Funchal itself. We have made special arrangements for any of our clients interested in playing on this course. The normal green fee is reduced by 20% for our guests resulting in a daily cost of €73.50 Clients who are interested in taking up this this special rate offer should contact us.

My wife, adult daughter and I greatly enjoyed our stay in Quinta Elena.
The property description is accurate and the owners were straightforward and helpful.
The property's situation is ideal with regard to staying in and enjoying Funchal. It really is a few minutes stroll downhill into town and through the beautiful St Caterina's Park too.
The garden is a wonderful place to read in and meant we could return "home" to relax in private whilst still being outside and enjoying the wonderful Madeiran summer weather. The mixture of sun and shade which the garden and balconies afford is a real plus.
There are many good restaurants within walking distance; the kitchen is well equipped so provides the option of buying in and cooking. Supermarket shopping was taxied back from Funchal centre- about 3 Euros for the fare.
We used the quiet local hotel pool at a discount because we were staying in the quinta- but equally enjoyed the vibrance of the public lido- which is a short taxi drive away.
We did not hire a car but booked the recommended chauffeur to provide two day trips of site seeing. He was knowledgeable, reliable and charming.
Would we go again? Certainly!

A house I'll keep coming back to...

I've stayed at Quina Elena twice, November '07 and May/June '08. I wasn't expecting to go back quite so soon but we had such a wonderful stay there that we found ourselves back only six months later. The real joy of the house is the courtyard garden - totally private and peaceful. Evenings would find us on the top terrace watching the swifts fly round and round the trees at sunset until the twinkling lights of the bay lit up before us.

The house is perfectly placed with only a ten minute downhill stroll down to the town, or ten minutes in the other direction gets you to Reids Hotel and afternoon tea on a beautiful balcony. We soon got used to the ten minute uphill climb back from the town... (not as steep as some of the roads in Funchal!) and we often used to make a point of walking back through St. Catarina Park and sitting for a while to enjoy the views.

I didn't think I would ever be the sort of person who would re-visit places over and over again, but Madeira has totally changed my mind.
