'Quinta Eva' is a typical and very comfortable (200m² living space) cottage built in the 30's , entirely detached and surrounded by its garden, absolutely quiet. Each bed rooms has a panoramic view on the sea. Placed in Funchal's city center in the old district ( no buildings around) at 3' from center and 500m from the sea where you can find some of the best restaurants with varied local and cosmopolitan menus; Panoramic view on the sea ,city and harbour very busy for the large liners of cruise ships . The cottage, is 1930 ' but with all the modern comfort you would expect from a well equipped holiday accommodation. It has a 70m² terrace (with a place for barbecue parties and lunch ) and a large garden (300m²) with plenty of exotic trees and flowers which provide a peaceful and quiet atmosphere. This is the sunniest part of Madeira and the cottage is blessed with sun from early morning to sunset with often spectacular effects! It is ideal for families or small groups up to 10 peop

Beautiful location in Funchal

Four couples from Bath, UK enjoyed a very pleasant week in Quinta Eva in April 2009. It is a large old house lying in a convenient and beautiful location since it is only a 20 minute downhill walk to the old part of Funchal where you can find the bus station, cable car, market, supermarket and restaurants. The short walk to town enabled us to use the local buses to reach the start of hikes along a number of stunning levadas.

The 4 double bedrooms are large and bright, however the matresses on the (rather squeeky) beds were very firm! The house has plenty of new appliances (fridge-freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, satellite TV, gas hob etc), but there is only a small grill/oven, although we used the large gas barbeque provided in the garden.

The garden around the house is beautiful, secluded and has attractive plants providing shade. The sunny Bourgainvilla-covered patio at the front has a large table perfect for quiet evening meals and barbeques where we enjoyed the fantastic open view over Funchal town, the harbour and coastline.

While the furnishings and bathrooms in the house are a little dated and the plumbing and hot water supply could be better (no worse than may be expected in an old cottage in this part of the world!); we did have a very enjoyable week's holiday in Madeira and would recommend this house to a large group of couples wanting to stay within reasonable walking distance of old Funchal but with peaceful surroundings and a beautiful view.
Owner's Response: -Concerning the matresses on the beds ,our purpose was to change them in twin beds in each room.
-About the grill/oven we understand it is too small for 10 people consequently we'll change it soon .
-We will do our best to ameliorate the plumbing but in keeping the old fashionable bathroom corresponding to our 1930's villa .
We are trying to ameliorate the comfort of our villa following the renters' suggestions .

A beautiful experience

We stayed at Quinta Eva in August 2008. The photographs looked beautiful and the cottage/villa was just as quaint and charming when we arrived. As a group of 5 ladies the villa was perfect as most of us had a room each and the garden beautiful. The villa appears to be at the top of a hill, but we later discovered it is actually nearer the bottom of it and it took us 15mins to walk to the beach and centre of Funchal. We had planned on eating out in Funchal every evening but much to the testament of the villa, we did not want to leave there in the evenings and enjoyed barbeques on the terrace almost every night while and enjoying the magnificent views overlooking Funchal.
