A charming authentic schist house in a very quiet, friendly hill village only 10-15 minutes drive from the thriving, regional town of Arganil in beautiful central Portugal. South facing, set in its own garden with flower-beds, vines, fruit trees and its old olive tree it has both sunny aspects and shaded patio areas. The views from the balcony and garden, especially the sun-sets, are stunning. A real romantic 'hide-away' for those wanting a peaceful time yet the house is a short drive to the main regional centre and the beautiful countryside, rivers and vallies of the 'real' Portugal. An ideal choice for those seeking rest and relaxation in beautiful surroundings with nearby wooded walks and scenic drives with good connections to other regions of the country. The village cafe with its viewpoint terrace can supply full meals and snacks and a full range of drinks with Portuguese specialities.

This room has a clothes and shoe rail and a drawer, both on wheels, so that they can be slid out of the room if both single beds are required.

Notes: Accessible from external steps is the ground-floor 'loja' with its original beams. It is at garden level, cool and fully tiled out with a sink area and en-suite shower room with an extra toilet and a washing machine installed. The loja can be used as a sleeping area, using one of the single beds from upstairs and or, an indoor daytime seating area if required during any very hot spells. It can also be used for extra storage space if required. It is a flexible space for guests to use to meet their individual needs. Patio furniture, BBQ and two sun beds supplied and stored in the Loja.

Holiday Activities: Modern outdoor swimming pool in beautiful location 25 minutes drive away. Three popular River Beaches 15 - 30 minutes drive away with full facilities. Panoramic drives. Nearby walks and drives to the many charming villages nearby. Wooded walks within easy walking distance of the house. Relaxing on the terrace of the house overlooking the olive grove and gape vines and admiring the stunning views and sunsets.

Town and Village Facilities: Bucado's quiet village bar/cafe is a short walk away. Ethnic meals available on request using local specialities and produce. Portuguese snack-type meals are always available and breakfasts can be provided for our guests by negotiation. The canopy level terrace of the bar/cafe can be used to enjoy your purchases whilst enjoying the views and sun-sets. The regional centre of Arganil with its shops, supermarkets, banks, cafes and restaurants is a short drive away and the town has a large thriving regional market every Thursday. The road network around Arganil gives good access to the rest of Portugal for experiencing the historical, cultural and natural delights of this beautiful country.

We recently spent 2 weeks at the cottage and had a very enjoyable holiday. The house is small but has everything you could need including 2 pretty decent showers and a great wee kitchen with everything you need to cook at home (which we did). The garden is a great sun spot but with enough shade to sit out quite comfortably at anytime of the day and be treated to spectacular views, and amazing sunsets.
The village is only 1 hour drive from Coimbra and is very well placed to take day trips out in the surrounding region, roman ruins at Conimbriga and Royal Palace at Bucaco are well worth a visit.
All in all we enjoyed a very relaxing and peaceful holiday at Casa Pequena.

It lives up to the description and more. An incredibly beautiful, quiet, get away from it all, place,The location is quite spectacular. The Casa was basic, clean, homely and provided everything we needed. We settled in very quickly.. The village and surroundings are wonderful. The few elderly residents we met stopped and talked to us. O Vasco who has the local taberna was always there ready to pour the glass of beer or wine, or just chat. The Casa owners were really helpful and answered all our questions promptly. I loved it. And we are going back in October...which says it all!!!

For nature lovers-tranquillity-remotness

This location is situated in a small village (less than 10 people) perched in the hills. The cottage is very well equipped and has a spectacular view of the valley. It is highly recommend for tranquillity and peace but a bit remote for those who seek some town life.

The first small town (Arganil) and place to sit down for a meal or coffee, buy groceries.. is located 15 minutes away by car. Coimbra, a larger town and a must see is at a 60 minute drive.

Conducive for activities such as cycling, rollerskiing, running,hiking.
Recommended for nature lovers (that seek remotness from city life). A car is a necessity.
