The resort also offers all-weather tennis courts, shops and football facilities. The golf driving range and beach are all within easy reach. Whilst offering an unrivalled golfing experience, there is also plenty to interest the non-golfers. The beaches in this region are all beautiful, empty and free from too many other holiday makers. Locally there are plenty of historic towns to visit and restaurants to enjoy, where seafood is a speciality.

Notes to the rental rates

• Rental rates include: Gas, Electricity, linen, towels (internal use only), twice weekly maid service included. Further maid service can be arranged at additional cost. Payment can be made in Euros or GBP. A 20% deposit is required on booking and the balance is payable 8 weeks prior to departure. A refundable damage deposit of £200 or 300 Euros is also required and needs to be added to final payment. This amount is refundable within 2 weeks of return less the reasonable cost of any breakages or damage done (not including reasonable wear and tear).

Surrounding area

Praia del Rey is located about 1 hours drive from Lisbon. Lisbon has all the museums, shopping and nightlife you would expect of a thriving capital city. The resort is situated on the unspoilt West Coast between the ancient towns of Obidos and Peniche. Obidos dating from 300 BC is a medieval walled town with narrow streets and bougainvillaea covered houses leading to the castle at the top of the hill. There are some very good restaurants within the walls of the city. Peniche is a picturesque working fishing port where day trips to the Berlengas islands (a national park) can be taken in summer (May to Sept). A 16th century fortress, museum and excellent inexpensive seafood restaurants complete the mix. Nowadays, visitors are lured onto the pristine beaches, especially those near Baleal, a small community whose draw is an idyllic fishing cove across a causeway which boasts spectacular rock formations.

The stunning 18 hole Championship Golf Course is ranked No. 1 in Portugal by Peugeot's 2003 Guide and 13th best in Europe by Golf World. The course has spectacular views over the Atlantic. Tee off times can be arranged in advance at Praia d'El Rey and there are at least 10 other quality 18 hole courses nearby. The Praia d'El Rey course is rigorously maintained to ensure excellent condition throughout the year. There is a pro-shop, driving range, and PGA tutors available to offer personal lessons to improve your game. Please note you do require an official handicap. Contact us for discounted rates.

Resort and activities

Situated amongst pine woods and sand dunes with two & a half kilometres of sandy beach frontage, the Praia D'El Rey Golf & Country Club is an ideal base to enjoy many of the leisure facilities this five star resort has to offer. These include the 18 hole championship golf course, driving range and clubhouse with bar, lounge and games room. The tennis centre has seven all weather multisport courts. A children's activity playground is also located near the clubhouse. Water sports, including surfing and sea fishing locally, with the opportunity to windsurf, paraglide, sail & paddle in the more tranquil waters of the lagoon (ideal for very small children), in neighbouring Obidos. Horse riding & mountain bike hire can be booked & there are countryside & cliff top paths along the unspoilt coastline.
