Shopping / Eating Out:
There is a small grocery shop within the resort itself and a small supermarket in the village of Serra D'El Rey, which is about 10 minutes away by car. There are larger supermarkets in Peniche (our favourite is the InterMarche, very local feeling) and at Caldas da Rainha or Obidos.
Caldas has a daily market for fresh fruit, vegetables, flowers cheese and other local produce and Peniche has a weekly Saturday fish market.
Although we believe part of a holiday is exploring and finding great places to eat, we have left details in the house of some of our favourites and some enjoyed by others, which we have not yet tried.
Flights / Car Hire:
The nearest airport is Lisbon and there are flights from London Gatwick and Heathrow with British Airways, Monarch and TAP.
Easyjet now fly daily to Lisbon from Luton and we find that these are the cheapest flights especially if you book early or on deals.
We would recommend that you hire a car (We use Budget good for price and easy to use with good reliable cars, so far anyway!) for your stay here, although it is possible to just enjoy the resort without having a car and just chill out, there are so many other great places to visit in the area.
The drive from the airport is fairly simple and takes about an hour, we will provide you with full details of how to get there.
Other Activities / Information:
Although golf maybe the main attraction for some there are plenty of other reasons why you would enjoy spending your holiday here.
The beach is stunning and is just on the doorstep. There are unspoilt golden sands that stretch as far as you can see, ideal for long walks.
If you enjoy water sports the Obidos Lagoon provides calm and protected waters and for the more daring the surfing at Baleal is very popular. There are regular trips across to the Berlanga Islands from Peniche in the summer months, where you will find a bird and wildlife sanctuary as well as amazing diving.
Or if you prefer sightseeing then there are some interesting sites nearby including the small town of Obidos or a day trip back down to the city of Lisbon is always an option.
Our hope is that is that you will simply relax and enjoy what is around you and then will understand why we have fallen in love with this whole area.
Golf:
Golf tee times can be booked ahead of your visit either directly with the club or (more reasonably) check out the numerous websites that will book the tee times for you.
You can hire clubs, trolleys and buggies from the golf club and there are two excellent British golf professionals available for lessons. The practice facilities are great with both long and short game practice areas, bunkers and putting greens.
There are a number of other courses nearby which are worth a visit - Quinta do Brincal (Golden Eagle) at Rio Maior being one of the most interesting - but to be honest we think that Praia D'El Rey is so special you will just want to play there.
You will need to provide a handicap certificate because although the course is suitable for most golfers it is not a course for absolute beginners.
Other Activities:
The cliffs, beach and sea are a short walk away and at the 5* Marriott Hotel there is a great gym, indoor pool and health club.
