Within 5 minutes you can walk to Ribeira in the centre of Portos old district, full of bars, cafes, clubs and great, cheap restaurants and fine dining options. The ancient tram takes you to Foz to the north and under the famous 5 bridges of Porto to the east. A short walk will get you to the boats that go over the Douro to the wonderful beaches of Gaia, recently voted the best beaches in Northern Portugal by the Portuguese. Environmental Agency. Walk out on to the street and you'll find family run cafes and places to eat as well as churches, galleries and bars. This is vibrant traditional Portugal, friendly, alive and safe.

Notes to the rental rates

• The rental rate does not include a daily maid service tho' this can be arranged with the renter to pay a fee directly to the maid of €7 (£5) per hour.
  A 50% deposit will be required to secure the rental with the balance to be paid 6 weeks prior to the commencement of the holiday where possible. Where the holiday is last minute we would ask for 100% payment to secure the rental.
  You will be met at the property or the airport to gain entry and get keys and if you require a lift back to the airport you can arrange with a family member (Luis) to provide that service - transit to the airport and help with check in and luggage etc.

Swimming Pool.

Less than 7 minutes by taxi or bus/tram from the property (it is easily walkable along the river) is a fabulous swimming pool complex called Clube Fluvial Portuense which has 4 pools and a diving pool open to non-members all year round. Entry prices are: Under 5's are free, up to 18 €5 per day and above 18 €7 per day. The facilities are world class. You must wear swimming caps and sandals (no provided). Surfing and Bodyboarding.

15 minutes in a taxi (€9/£6)) will take you to the beach of Leca da Palmeira beyond nearby Matosinhos where you'll find the recently opened Academy of Surfing where you can arrange to rent equipment or receive tuition in surfing and body boarding. Beaches at Gaia.

Praia de Canide: Part of an enormous stretch of sands that runs continuously over kilometres, Canide Beach itself divides into two areas, North and South. The southern area is favoured by surfers while the northern often hosts kite-surfing and beach football competitions. A short trip along the river side going west from the apartment will bring you to Barcas where you can take a boat across the Douro to Gaia (cost €1). The last boat back is at midnight. The beaches are a short walk around the headland and are spectacular. Facilities there include: shade and lounger rental, restaurants, bars and cafes. These beaches are awarded an EEC Blue Flag denoting that the water is clean. The temperature is usually around 16 degrees. A little further south there is a second golf course available (smaller than the Oporto Golf Course at Espinho) at Miramar. The day could start with a swim, followed by some sun and then on for a few holes!

Golf Information:

Oporto Golf Course Oporto Golf Club is an authentic links established in 1890, and is one of the oldest golf courses in continental Europe. If one had to describe the Oporto G.C in a single word, it would be tradition. This course is located 17 kilometres to the south of Porto beside the beautiful beaches of Espinho. It is, after Pau, in France, the second oldest course in Continental Europe. It was established in 1890, when British residents in Porto created the club. It's a 20 minute drive from Alfandega (taxi will be ca €15/£10) and there is a train link from Campanha Station (5 mins walk) to Espinho (€2). The course, an authentic links, is relatively short (5,668 metres for a Par 71). Its narrow fairways, together with the north wind, are the main obstacles, starting out with a difficult Par 4. In terms of challenging holes, one cannot forget number 11, a Par 5 of 494 metres, which together with hole number 4, is considered to be the most difficult on the course. As if to balance the difficulties of these earlier holes, each of the course's two halves concludes with a very accessible Par 5 hole, providing some exciting endings for competitions.
