One hour drive from the villa and you will find the lovely town Monchique. It lies in the most beautiful part of the Algarve, the Monchique mountains. A very picturesque town, with beautiful houses, also in the town here is the watermill. It's definitely worth to visit. Take a walk round the town and visit Parish church. There is also a well marked, interesting walk around the town, laid out by the local council.
Nearby Monchique you will find the little village Caldas, the famous spa about 1 km down the road to Portimao, where you can enjoy massages and any treatment. Just enjoy!!!
Situated on the heights above the town of Aljezur, one can find the ruins of the castle of Aljezur, originally constructed by the Moors, and which dominated the region of Aljezur until the destruction of 1755. The wall area comprised two towers, one round and one square, and included a covered cistern with a vaulted roof. Despite the fact that the castle is now in ruins it is an important feature of this town taken from the Moors in 1250.
