'Casa Dunvegan' is located in the village of Casal da Avarela just 3 minutes drive from Obidos which has a railway station with limited service morning and evening, horse drawn carriage, coach and bus services and for cars, immediate access to the A8 motorway. Obidos is considered to be one of the jewels of Portugal's national heritage. Its outstanding architectural beauty is reflected as much in the winding narrow streets and elegant whitewashed buildings and balconies decorated with flowers as in the ancient churches and the magnificent Moorish castle whose high protective walls encircle the town. Obidos was once the favourite retreat of King Sancho 1 and was a wedding gift from King Diniz to Queen Isabel. Within the walls there are some charming restaurants and shops well worth visiting.

Obidos Lagoon (15mins) is one of the largest salt water lagoons with a magnificient sandbar situated between it and the sea. The protected beach and dunes make it the perfect place for safe swimming and boating. Peniche (20mins) possesses a rich and long history with its main activity being fishing and agriculture, a striving town with superb fish restaurants. Caldas Rainha (8 mins) is the closest city with its many shops, supermarkets and chain stores. It has markets open daily for fresh vegetable and fish as well as the added attractions of a public swimming pool, museums, a bull ring, cinema and several discotheques. It is the main shopping area for the region. Golf Information:

Praia De Rey (20 mins) is the nearest golf course. This attracts golfers from all over Europe but the majority are from UK, Ireland and Sweden. Playing from the yellow tees, the course is quite a challenge but from the white tees some of the holes become extremely formidable particularly the par threes which can change from a wedge to a wood. The course is a mixture of park land and links with some stunning sea views on the back nine holes. The toughest hole is the seventeenth a long crescent shaped par 5 with an extremely narrow entrance to the green. There are numerous other good golf courses in the area namely, Belas, Golden Eagle and the new CampoReal whilst further a field but worth the drive if you are keen, are the delights of Penha Longa, Aroeira 1 and 2, Quinta Marinha and Quinta do Peru.
